from Dark to Light

The Quilters Guild here in the UK are trying to make the longest quilt . they have invited all quilt groups here to make a quilt with the title From Dark to Light. Would you mind taking a look at the 1st one in my pictures. I have assembled ours and did it stitch and flip . Do any of you have opinions as to whether I need to add anymore quilting, particularly in the borders between the fillet and the black "frame". Or maybe I should just press it to try and lose the slight puffiness. The invisible thread is also proving to be not, and the chalk lines I drew with a marker has left some slight marks too!All in all I am not too keen on this one now! Will be glad to see it go.Maybe this will not notice in the grand scheme of them all. Take a look if you want to. Thanks

Estelle, I think it's gorgeous. I love the range of colors and how beautifully one flows into the next. And the birds are a stunningly simple but perfect touch. I don't think you need to change anything and I really believe it's a very good piece.

You'll kill me for saying this Estelle; but, as the fabric(s)? on either side of the black fillet are the same, I think the quilting rays should go on after the fillet. It might mean a lot of stopping and starting - unless you could continue between the lines by SITD along the black bits whichever side you come to?

It is lovely though - and very apt for the title. . In message , Estelle Gallagher writes

Estelle: That is an exciting quilt! I like how the birds float into view. About the quilting: I think you might want to add quilting to the pieced border. The diagonal lines inside the narrow strip are probably okay, but the border area needs a bit more quilting. HTH.

Pat:

I've posted that more quilting will help. I would point out that it would be best to go from the black strip OUT to the edge, but not go back from edge to strip. The latter approach would likely cause puckers, ripples and so on. So, now *I* am the one causing more work for Estelle. JMO. PAT in VA/USA PS: Filet? Never heard that used in quilting. I do know of filet crochet where one would make scenic or graphic designs, and of course I do enjoy a flounder filet now and then, but I don't like fish on my quilts! ;) This is probably just another language difference. WHEN are you English gonna learn to speak English, eh?? ROFL

I really like it .. to me it told a story - 'I'm escaping the dark forest - oh yes I think I see the light, yes, there's the light - we're out of the forest - hooray' - call me crazy. I think stories up all the time when I'm making quilts (in my head of course). Wonderful job I think - it had to be fun choosing the fabrics.

The quilt is gorgeous!!! And those birds, how sweet they are with their feather light touch! I do think that if it were mine I would probably add some more quilting in the outer border areas. I liked the idea of extending the rays out.

I think it might be more French than English, PAT!!

Sorry if I duplicated your thoughts (we Pats do tend to do that >gPat:

Fantastic work, I love it and do agree it needs a little more quilting on the black border.
