Solved the sheet dilemma with some experimentation...turns out the cheapest crib sheets we could find, after being run on a hot load, shrink enough that they fit the oval mattress just fine. So, I placed a bulk order on those and will save my sewing for finishing up the I- spy that is sitting in the corner screaming my name!
