Holiday Projects?

Has anyone begun holiday projects yet? I knocked out a set of placemats yesterday and will do the napkins today. Also a set of coasters. And I've done 2 dog stockings and 1 cat stocking. I have a looooong list of "want to do's". What are you working on? What's on your "wanna do" list?

BTW - I'm looking for a stocking pattern in the shape of a cowboy boot if anyone happens to run across one.

I'm finishing up a "Lasagna" throw quilt and starting two very easy wall hangings for my family room using cheater panels purchased during the last NJ Shop Hop. Once done, they will get packed away with my holiday decorations which creates a void in my stash bins. hmmmmmmm.........

I would also like to make an I-Spy for my hubby's 6 year old nephew for Christmas. All the squares are cut, so I basically just need to find sewing time.

Me!! Me!! I made hotpad/potholders for everyone last year. I reallly enjoyed it - course, I'm the one who likes to do handstitching. There's not much of that in these, but enough to make me happy.

'm not sure how good I am at explaining what I did, but I can try. Maybe someone out there has an actual pattern for them. It involves cutting 8"circles (back, front, batting) and 20 5"squares (3 different fabrics), ironing the squares into triangles and layering them on the front circle (requires about 30 stitches by hand), stack the circles together and sew binding around the edge - yep, I used a machine. I can write out all the details if anyone is interested. It's a great way to use up some scraps and almost anything matches. BJ in Georgia

Yes, I'm quilting toward the annual Summer is Finally Over holiday, usually happens sometime in November.

Btw, Patti started this topic. I didn't say ANYthing about "it's the

24th/25th of the month, do you know where your holiday projects are?" at all. I didn't do it, Mom; she started it!

Working on: taking pics of the quilts I've Finished this year, including the newly washed and ready to give Julia's Pink&Purple Princess quilt (Julia's b-day is end of August, guess I'll hold on to this for a bit). Ready to cut out the next (small) quilt project, blues at the ready.

Ragmop/Sandy--noting that the more pink & purple fabric I used the more the pinks & purples multiplied in the stash ...

Only one Christmas project going here. I'm making a red dress for the family 2 year-old but it is mighty slow-going. There seems to be a slight delay at every step. I ordered red silk satin ribbon to go through the lace beading on the skirt. Since I needed many yards and the stuff is expensive, I ordered it from jkmribbon.com. They tell me it will be 3 to 4 weeks before they can ship. No problem. No hurry. Good price but I'm so glad I didn't wait until the last minute for this one. Polly

I think my want to do will remain the wedding quilt I'm planning/getting ready to cut out. If I get started on it now, maybe I can have it done by next June! Debi (is there a title for the slowest quilter? I'm sure I'd qualify!)

I was thinking about being halfway to Christmas on June 25 but was kind enough not to mention it. Maybe the question about holiday projects at this point should be whether or not we finished the stuff from last holiday season that we didn't get to on time.

Taria I get that multiply> Howdy!

Sandy....... That's where I'm USUALLY at. Sitting at the SM until the wee hours, frantically trying to finish a project that just HAS to be done! I'm going to "try" to do better this year. I'm working on a quilt for my great niece that has me stumped atm, so switched to mindless tasks like placemats, napkins, and some pet stockings. I'm so proud!!! BTW - equilter has blues on sale right now if you want to "balance out" your multiplying pinks and purples........

Patti - do you serge your napkin edges or doublefold & stitch them? I don't have a serger, but I'd like to make some napkins to go with some purchased placemats & I'm hesitant to start. And do you use quilt shop cotton or something else? I know they must be simple to do, I just like to have a plan in mind before I start . . .

There was a demo at Fabric 'n Fun (In Milpitas) on afternoon. The woman cut two squares of coordinating fabrics. Sewed them like a pillow, stitched the opening closed and they were very cute double sided napkins.

Christmas?? Christmas is coming??? Since when? My Christmas plans are the same as every year:

  1. Wait until mid-December
  2. Panic
  3. But as many boxes as possible of some kind of chocolate candy in pretty packages
  4. Wait until it's too late to get them in the mail and actually have them arrive by Christmas.
  5. Make New Year's resolution to accept myself just as I am, without judgment or self-abuse.
  6. In the spirit of keeping my New Year's resolution, break out all those boxes of chocolate and start eating.

:)

Merry Christmas in July, Sunny

You could really streamline this process and save yourself a lot of time. I'd eliminate steps 2, 4, 5, and the first part of step 6. And then have an extra piece of chocolate just because you got your holiday routine done so quickly and easily! ROFLOL
