how much Orvus & fast spin in front loader?

I have some quilts I've never washed and a brand new front loading washing machine. I'm still experimenting with how much detergent to put in ... it has no window and the door locks, so I can't tell how much water it uses or if there are suds.

Is it a good idea to use the longer faster spin on quilts in the front loader? I've heard that generally the machines are supposed to put less stress on quilts.

I have a front loader- I use the "high effeciency" detergents that are specifically labeled for front loaders. Those have a low sudsing factor and directions for how much to use on the container. For washing your quilts- it depends. Are they hand pieced and quilted? I would NOT suggest machine washing. Are they masterpeices with fabrics and embellishments or embroidery that were made with fabrics that were not pre-washed? Special handling needed. Are they all cotton and all machine made and "using" type quilts? Then treat them just like a good cotton shirt. Just my opinion..... that's how I treat mine. When they wear out from being washed to death, then I make another one. ;-)

I have a front loader and only use about 1/4 c. liquid detergent. I am seeing some that are low sudsing, specially made for front loading. The first time I used it I had suds belching out all over the place, so I had to change my tactics.

=46ront loader washers use less detergent. There are specialty = detergents for front loaders, but they are more expensive. I use regular detergent just less of it - for example, for a typical load of clothes, I use regular detergent, but only a third of the amount called for the size load being washed.

=46or quilts, I use even less -- how much depends on the size quilt being washed. I also use the gentle cycle, and cold water. So far no problems!

Thanks. The "good cotton shirt" is a good comparison. Lobo
