A first...

Or maybe a couple of firsts. This was the first time in six years I haven't worked the scribing committee for our local show. Since I'm a vice-president this year, I felt that perhaps I could take the year off from this other. I almost wish I hadn't. I'm not really convinced that the judge did a great job this time, and I might feel differently if I'd watched her "in action". She's a new one to us, and the Best of Show quilt, while beautifully quilted, had some major problems (wavy borders, unequal width, etc.). She also gave multiple firsts, seconds and thirds in one category, which I think rather odd, at the very least.

I'd entered three quilts this time: two minis (Spring Pansies and Conflagration) and African Feathered Stars. The minis didn't win anything (that's *not* a first for me! ), but the stars did! In fact, I now have my very first blue ribbon since moving here! Yes, I know -- I don't think much of how the judge did things, but in this case.... ;)

Well, OF COURSE you got a blue ribbon! WOOHOO and congrats! And I don't think much of the judge, either, seeing as you only got one. Sheesh! I just LOVE all your quilts. You do such lovely work and have a great sense of color. Sheesh- again.

Well done, Sandy. That's great. It is a beautiful quilt. At least the judge agreed with all of us - we gave our judgement on it long ago >gg< Congratulations. . In message , Sandy writes

Way to go! Those feathered stars were gorgeous. :)

One speaker at our guild said she tells herself that judges are tired, poorly fed people who have been on their feet all day. Of course they will miss the obvious (both good and bad) once in a while. *grin*

How wonderful. So happy for you. If the judge was a bit dippy, at least she had the good judgment to honor your gorgeous creation. It is a funny feeling though. I've won blue ribbons and thought the judges had no sense at all (about the other winners, of course). Polly

Well, I taught my first class yesterday at the LQS. 11 people tried their hand at postcards. We made easter baskets full of eggs and chocolate bunnies (no calorie ones!). All seemed to have a great time. Thanks especially to Pam Patton (I hope she is on this group) who provided her teaching lists to me which I modified to suit my taste. All went really well. I also took all my postcards I have received to show and inspire all the class attendees and they loved them. Hopefully we will get some more swappers out of the deal!

The shop owner wants me to do another class in July (Christmas cards).
