More Lazy Girl stuff

There is a wealth of information as well as lots of pictures in Joan's blog. Her instructions and demonstration pictures are perfectly clear. Nothing is assumed. Which I appreciate even more now that I've made another tote bag from a pattern that I almost threw into the garbage. Just because you can sew a unique bag doesn't mean you can put together a successful pattern for it. I felt ripped off after spending the money on the pattern. I even told my quilt shop owner about it too. She said she had talked to the designer who told her the pattern wasn't for beginners. Darn right. It wasn't all that difficult to sew, but if you weren't experienced enough to understand what the next step should be and how to do it, you would be sunk. The pattern instructions wouldn't help.

Just reading through some of the free patterns on the Lazy Girl Designs website, I am finding the instructions not very clear. Is this the same as her purchased patterns or are there more thorough directions in those? Or is it one of those, "you must print it out and have the stuff in your hands to make sense" things? (Being a very visual person, I've found this true with many patterns in the past!) I've been reading the freebies just to see if I could follow the instructions, and I love her stuff, but have been afraid to even attempt to try anything yet!

I'm definitely feeling the pull and I am thinking that a Wonder Wallet or something small like it might make a wonderful Girl Scout project!

I'm very visual and you do need to have the instructions handy when you make any of her things, but I've made lots of Joan's patterns and love them. They have photos of many steps, which helps me immensely.
