Lazy Girl Designs

My four Lazy Girl patterns arrived today. In reading thru them I saw the dreaded words that the items cannot be made to sell. I wrote to Joan asking special permission to make a few of each pattern to donate to our very small, and very financially strapped, church's craft sale to help raise money to meet their obligations thru the winter. She is unable to grant permission. Just in case anybody has any thoughts along these lines..... it ain't happening.

I guess I'll be designing my own pattern line for the church's sale.... stay tuned.

What about some of those pretty little pincushions that Jeanne showed us earlier today? You could do something similar, I'm sure. Or some of those pincushions we talked about and looked at a while ago that were in pretty china cups and the like? Things like that wouldn't take long, and you could make them with scraps. Now you have your cheque book cover, too! . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

Good ideas, Pat. But... not everybody needs a pincushion and most women will want or need a handbag or two, right? Also, the pincushions would sell cheaply (and people can look at your ideas and go home and make their own) where an hour or two and a few FQs for a handbag would bring a better return on my investment and time. That's what I was thinking and hoping at any rate. I take this as a challenge... you know how I am like a bulldog with a challenge. I'll design prettier and better bags! VBEG

You go, girl! I like your spunk :-) I'm sure you can come up with something much nicer yourself. It's a shame that you could not get permission. I understand the designers' right to her pattern, but it seems that selling a few could *enhance* sales of the pattern. Think how many people would see your lovely items and ask where you got the pattern?

Yeah, I even told her I would give her, her patterns and her 'kind' permission full credit right there at the sale. Still it was no go. Oh well..... Now I have another project. (groan...)

would the same apply to a raffle? raffling a quilt would probably make more than selling it

I am totally, absolutely, unequivocally Certain that you can and will do better; yes I am. Since I *know* that you look at patterns just for the fun of seeing how they could have been better this will be no challenge, just a happy journey. Go for it. Polly

Oh, I'm still going to make handbags with matching accessories for the church to sell. I'm just gonna design them *myself*! I don't need her help, either. :-P~~~~~~~~~~~

I wonder if someone made the handbags from her pattern and then used the handbags several times and then 'donated' the used bags and they were sold as 'used' stuff at a yard sale? I'm sure she'll be keeping an eye on me now that I asked, so I won't try that, but there seems to be several ways to get around it.... there always is.

I'm off to design my first handbag.... wish me luck!

This is the reason I refuse to buy her patterns. I don't know many designers that refuse if asked properly. Until she is willing to change this, I'll buy nothing of hers. Gen

Thanks for the reminder, Leslie. I was about to order 3 more purse patterns. That won't be happening. I have couple of her patterns and had completely forgotten that stupid " oh, by-the-way".

I make lots of stuff for our church boutique and other charities. If I can't use her precious patterns for that, then they aren't of any use to me.

I have tons of Renee Plains Liberty Star patterns and she INVITES you to make them to sell.

This foldover purse is so easy. I''ve made 2 of them so far. I made a Halloween purse last night (except for the strap). They use 3 fat quarters for the outside and a 1/2 yard of lining.

Her policy makes no sense to me. She once said if people want the bags they can make them themselves. She doesn't seem to realize that the ones that would buy the finished bags don't sew!!! If she relaxed her policy she'd sell more patterns so people would make a variety to sell. Oh well, guess she's getting rich enough as it is. Gen
