My newest favorite notion . . .

Fabric Folding Pen made by Clover

You mix water with a solution (just a few drops required) provided and pour it into the pen which has a foam tip.

Lay your ruler where you want the fold line to be - draw the foam tip along the ruler - finger press. The directions don't say to, but I press with a hot iron to hold the crease. The solution makes the fabric pliable and easy to fold.

It's great to turn under the edges for applique - I don't think it would work on anything except straight lines.

Also great for turning up cuffs, turning under edges for pockets, etc., before sewing.

The directions say not for polyester. I haven't tried it on anything except

100% cotton.

Why wouldn't a small tip paintbrush dipped in water and run along the 'crease-to-be' work just as well? Just get the tip of the brush wet, run it along the line fold and iron in the crease. I use a bamboo skewer to hold down the fabric to prevent burnt fingers. Yes, it works on curves, just takes a bit longer to set the crease. I use the paintbrush that came in a set of 10 in the kidlets coloring book section of the store so they were inexpensive. Bought them so long ago I forgot where.... No chemicals, no odor and no great expense..more $ to spend on fabric :)

Haven't noticed any odor at all. You use just 3 or 4 drops mixed with the water.

You shoulda told us about the paint brush idea! :-) It's a technique I'd never heard of until I was introduced to this product.

Sorry :( Have done it for so long that I never thought of 'sharing'. Wonder what else 'I' know that needs sharing. Gonna hafta ponder awhile.

Butterfly (once you run outta refills, I'd just use plain water and see if that would work....)

I'll bet most of us do or use things that we don't realize other people don't know about. Our quilt group, about once a year, has a "share your notions and/or techniques" meeting. I always learn something or about something. It's been awhile since we've done that here on rctq.

I'll bet the plain water will work - I'm going to try it!

Plain water works but you can also use a diluted solution of water with a little stray starch (the pump action stuff, not the aerosol). That will create a crease that is nearly permanent (has to be dampened and ironed to remove).
