On topic: witness my bummed-outness

That ten year WIP I just finished? The multicolored miracle of persistence? One of the right things I did during its construction was prewash every single scrap of fabric. Well, I washed the finished quilt in cold water to get off all the cat fur and ONE OF THE %$#@! PIECES _RAN_ and bled over adjacent patches. Yes, I had synthropol in the rinse. Yes, I washed it two more times with synthropol and color catchers. No,it did not all come out. Nasty, hateful teal green! It's not terribly dark, but one of the smears is right smack dab in the exact center of the quilt in one of the white squares. It still looks more or less all right on a bed, but it is certainly un-showable in a show.

I know that, compared with everyone's health and job and school problems this is piddly, but GEE WHIZ! I was only able to enjoy it unspoiled for less than a week. : -(

Can you applique a new (not so new) piece of the violated piece? Either the same size and shape, or something new to pump it up and be an unexpected design feature? (obviously I haven't had a look at said WIP!) MAmadurk

Can't think of anything more annoying! It's still a beauty, though, just not the beauty you had in mind. (Hugs) Is there some way to get some greenish splotches on the rest of the white bits, sort of a pale hand-dyed look? Then it would be a design element! Roberta in D

That is awful. It should lighten up but that isn't much consolation. That happened to me with the vintage blocks I put together for my cousin. One stinking piece of fabric. I took a tooth brush and a variety of products to it. I think the Carbona stain remover did the best good but also used biz and oxyclean. I did learn NEVER dry in the dryer until you inspect how that quilt came out of the washer. At least then the run isn't so set. I'm really sorry. That is a rotten story. TAria

Aw, gee, Monique, I am so sorry! Such a beautiful quilt, too! Are you quite sure it will show? (All right, stupid question, but I had to ask.)

How about a butterfly. . . . . I had a boyfriend once with a butterfly tattooed on his bum -- that was certainly an unexpected design feature.
