SQUTS (Stupid Quilting Tricks...)

Posted by pkock Wed, Jun 28, 06 at 1:01 I apologize for the silly acronym...sort of. ;) I got the idea from another forum I visit for pop-up camping; they have many popular threads for SPUTS (stupid popup tricks - I think it originates with the David Letterman show, "stupid pet/human tricks"). Of course what this means is you're supposed to discuss the silly mistakes you've made while quilting. Lord, I hope I'm not the only one who does it. :) My SQUT of the day: I cut my measuring tape in half while trimming the edges of my piano topper. Forgot it was sitting there. Doh!

I'm new to paper piecing. And I still tend to cut off the piece I've just sewn on when trimming the seam allowance! Man I hate it when I do that!

Hahahahaha!!! Wait till you lean over to cut and cut a slit in the sleeve of your bathrobe!! Explain that to DH and family! Karen L

Yesterday I sewed the last two rows of a quilt top on backwards. A while back I accidently cut off half of the whiskers on my most curious and attention demanding kitty. She was in my face and wanting me to pet her while I was strip cutting and whoosh. I'm just glad it wasn't any worse! I also can't count how many times when doing fusible machine applique, that I've fused to the wrong side of the fabric. Sheesh! Kay

Really funny, you guys. I wish to appear perfect in your eyes, and therefore refuse to reveal my Stupid Quilting Tricks. oH, ALL RIGHT. The time I needle-turn appliqued an entire angel to a block, and when I went to cut the thread, found I had appliqued the whole thing through to my tee-shirt. Marti in Mexico

Howdy!

Many of us could add a few... or more.

One of my favorites was at guild; a small group from Plano (north of Dallas) gave a hilarious program, chronicling the trials & travails of their quilting journey. They showed us a gorgeous, big quilt that had been beautifully machine-quilted, then they showed the back of the quilt where a dryer sheet had been quilted right into the finished product. "Didn't mean to do that!" "But by then it was too late, there was NO WAY we were going to undo what we'd done!" Amid shrieks of laughter they showed us the red & blue ribbons that quilt had won at a couple of quilt shows. ;-D "This is how we learned about Design Elements." LOL
