weaving info sought

Hi everyone, maybe someone else may have some input on this for me.

I have warped up a 4shaft floor loom with rug string, 4EPI and 39ins wide.

I have a large Border Leicester, with a staple of between 3 and 4inches. Which I've washed and combed into long rovings. Using 1part baby oil to

3parts water in a mister to stop static flyaways.

I have spun and plyed some of the fleece rovings to a UK Double knit thickness. and so far have woven one and a half inches of plain tabby weave, then pulling the roving to give me the staple length of 3ins I've knotted these every other string all the way along the width leaving the two floating selvs free. Then I did four picks(rows for the non weaver) of tabby or plain weave and started my next lot of knotted fleece tufts, this time using every other string but this time the strings inbetween the ones I knotted last time, so first time I knotted 1,3,5,7, and this time 2,4,6,8, if you see what I mean. This will be sandwiched by te 4picks of tabby .

I don't know if I'm meant to knot every other string or every third string, it looks ok, and obviously I will have to trim the length of the fleece when the rug is finished.

However if anyone has ever done this and knows of a different way, or has a better way, please say so...lol

cheers.....Cher

Hi Cher. Are you making a sleigh blanket? I can't remember which issue (recent, old, who knows) but it seems there was an article on making just such a thing in one of the Interweave publications. I'll see if I can suss it out for you...

Ok, it was the Winter '04 SpinOff...

I love Interweave - they've got magazine indices in PDF format going back to the beginning of time and current through 2004.

Ok, the synopsis:

Warp the loom. Weave on a header. Work two inches (you'll have enough to turn under a hem) in pattern, tie on thrums every FOURTH warp thread. Tie on thrums every 1.5" of work. Finish with four inches (hem, plus monogramming space). Full. It says nothing about staggering thrums.
