I don't recognise the songs for the time of my birth in either the US or the UK, so I looked up when my parents got married, in the UK, it's "You're the one that I want", by John Travolta and Oliva Newton John, which is pretty cool!

I looked up a few other dates and the only one of any interest is my daughter's, it was that dumb crazy frog ring tone!

The UK version doesn't go back far enough for my birthday! I guess that makes me old, huh?

Finding out that the song that was number one on the day you were born is an old drinking song as performed by a second rate hack is sad. Finding out that the most popular version internationally is performed by "The German Oktoberfest Oompah Band" sends the mind reeling.

I am now going to go cleanse my mind with a little Marylin Manson...

if you say so! The UK singles chart was 50 years old on 16 Nov 2002, so you don't have to be old to miss out, my MIL would (just) and I don't consider her old.

just realised that another significant one would be the number 1 on my

18th birthday, it was Candle in the Wind 97, by Elton John, which was number 1 and the UK and the US at that time and probably many other places too. It's almost the only single I own (the others being Oasis), it's still in it's packaging, DH has it too, also untouched, I think his is the CD and mine is on cassette, they'll never be antiques, apparently it was the biggest selling single of all time, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the most unlistened to single of all time too, I know many people that bought it, but noone who listened to it.

Me too, but I get Vaughn Monroe's "Riders in the Sky" for the US one! They don't come much better than that.

My DH found a sample of a version by Marlene Deitrich online. That ups the cool points tremendously (G)

Mine is a song by Jo Stafford in the US. I didn't think I ever heard it before but listening to the sample is familiar.

In the UK was "She wears Red Feathers" Guy Mitchell

I am clueless on that one LOL

Yes, it is too bad that Elton messed up one of his best songs. I would neither buy it nor listen to it.

When I first read your message, I thought, "you are only 11?" Then I reread it, and saw that the song was number one on your 18th birthday, not on the day you were born, but that still makes you awfully young.
