OT: Christmas Carol Rant

OK -- one of my most favouritest Christmas carols is "Mary's Boy Child". But -- and this seems to be a BIG "but" (not at all related to MY butt which, by the way, IS big) -- anywhoo the BUT part is that I like the calypso version of the song. I know that Boney M and The Brothers Four recorded it in the calypso style (I'm not sure if it was written this way or not) but every time I hear it, it's one of those dreary, s l o w ballad versions. I mean, even Harry Belafonte recorded a boringly slow version of the song and the man WAS Calypso before any of us knew what that was -- he IS the reason us oldsters even know what calypso is for heaven's sake. Anyway, I want the up-beat, "jouncy" calypso version not another ballad. Sheesh -- there are umpty million ballad Christmas carols &/or songs out there but not very many calypso type carols. VBS and yes, I own the Boney M version but only on 45 rpm and I don't even have a turntable that works anymore :-(. Let it be known that there is NO ROOM for discussion about this. The calypso version is the best and those other treacley, smarmy, boringly slow versions should just be deleted from the offerings of the local radio stations AND the stuff AO(HEL)L offers !!!!! Have you tried Carlos Macolm or Caroline McKenzie? Even Harry Connick Jr's rendition is "spicier" than HB's.

"Rubber Band" has a "Beatles-ish" version, too. Vince Charles (Carribean Christmas) did a "calypso" version, too.

Don't know if this helps!

Hugs!! Connie :) (who's favorite song is still "Grandma got run over by a reindeer!")

Howdy!

So, Mary, why haven't you bought a new copy on cd?

OK, and while we're on the subject, I want Christine Ebersole singing Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas! Just her, nobody else. Just her.

Ys Know -- I haven't a clue -- LOL! I'm always buying new Christmas CD's but I'm usually in Target or WallyWorld and the Boney M version is never included. I'll have to check out the link above -- thanks for that :-). As for Lulee-Lulay, that's another one I do really love to hear -- can't sing along with my very limited six note vocal range but I DO like listening to it. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Was that YOU??? I know the "teleflora" name but an e-mail from someone named Cindy didn't ring any bells -- LOLOL! I was gonna post here and ask if the e-mail was from someone I knew because but I totally forgot. I won't download stuff from someone I don't know and with all of the drek that the trolls have been posting lately, I was afraid it was one of those eejits sending me some trash! I'll go check out what you sent to me -- thanks for asking -- jogged my wee little brain (which is almost dead from a week of 6 hr. long decorating days)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I love the Boney M version too ... I saw a Christmas CD of theirs at Chapters just the other day. It's the first Christmas CD I play every year.
