OK -- one of my most favouritest Christmas carols is "Mary's Boy Child". But -- and this seems to be a BIG "but" (not at all related to MY butt which, by the way, IS big) -- anywhoo the BUT part is that I like the calypso version of the song. I know that Boney M and The Brothers Four recorded it in the calypso style (I'm not sure if it was written this way or not) but every time I hear it, it's one of those dreary, s l o w ballad versions. I mean, even Harry Belafonte recorded a boringly slow version of the song and the man WAS Calypso before any of us knew what that was -- he IS the reason us oldsters even know what calypso is for heaven's sake. Anyway, I want the up-beat, "jouncy" calypso version not another ballad. Sheesh -- there are umpty million ballad Christmas carols &/or songs out there but not very many calypso type carols. VBS and yes, I own the Boney M version but only on 45 rpm and I don't even have a turntable that works anymore :-(. Let it be known that there is NO ROOM for discussion about this. The calypso version is the best and those other treacley, smarmy, boringly slow versions should just be deleted from the offerings of the local radio stations AND the stuff AO(HEL)L offers !!!!!
