OT: Felt Christmas Ornaments

Aren't these cute? It's too late this year, but I'm thinking of making a set for everyone in the family (small family) and giving a little Charley Brown tree to display them.

They are so ADORABLE!! Are they made out of wool felt? If so, it is easy to use?

I've been itching to do up some ornaments with W/F, but just can't find any in my area (can never remember to order some online) ... mayhap it's time to hit the local thrift store, buy some old wool sweaters and make my own!!

And yet again, you've proven to be quite the inspiration!! I thank you, yet my wallet doesn't!!! ;)

Hugs!! Connie :)

The pattern calls for real felted woven wool, hand-dyed, of course. Not having quick (no tolerance for delay here!) I used regular felt that we sell at the store. It's not the nasty acrylic felt, but actual wool felt. I know that the felted woven wool would be nicer, but maybe next time.

Connie, they may be designed to use with wool felt/felted wool, but you can also use regular craft felt too. I did some very similar ones one year, way before the current wool felt craze.

Those are wonderful! Will have to look for the pattern (website) as we love the "country" look.

I figured as much, but I did some (a while back, though - 2 years???) out of regular craft felt and they just didn't weather the handling and stitching well. They "pilled" something awful - and the dye seemed to have worn off a bit with the handling, too.

I was really hoping that W/F is easier to use and more durable ... I put in so much work on those other ornaments and they just didn't last well. :( Though, that may be because I did use the REALLY cheap stuff (from Hobby Lobby - sold in sheets) ... I did different ornaments about 10 years ago out of felt that's lasted quite nicely. So, maybe it IS where it's bought!

It may depend on the brand of felt too. I have done a lot with the polyester felt, by Kunin, that is sold by the yard. Yes it may pill and such, but since most ornaments are not handled all that often or for all that long, (at least around here ) that doesn't seem to be a problem. I have done some little pins to put on jackets and such with felt too.
