OT - first leaf of fall

Well I saw the first orange leaf of fall today, on the way to the doctor's. It has been windy lately here, but it was only blowing down green ones! Still, after roasting in that heat wave earlier, autumn is almost a blessing (now my eczema will calm down). I can't wait to see the lovely colors and get out all my favorite sweaters. I don't understand why people love summer the best... I think autumn has it hands down!

Autumn does win hands down, I love the fall colors ( but I wont use the fall colors in fabric go figure) the color show in fall is fantastic. Though of all the four season's I have a hard time choosing between Spring and fall as my favorites. Because both have the great color shows.

Ps Thank you Jo for the joke it was fantastic and so right.

I also love fall colours, although they are the worst ones for me to wear, except orange, and you don't find a lot of clothes in orange.[at least the tone I wear] It's also the time of year next to Christmas I love to decorate in, can't wait to bring out all my fall themed items and quilts. Last year I took a tessellating leaves with a 3-D effect. I decided to make it bigger than the wall hanging size, and have yet to finish it. Will have to dig it out once it gets cooler and get on it again. Looking forward to the cooler weather. It's just been too hot lately.

Autumn would be great if it weren't always followed closely by winter.

I've got a couple of those, but I've also got a couple of patterns.. hoping to start using one as my "take along" project now that I've completed all those thatched cottages. I feel a little odd not working on that project anymore... Anyone else out there feel a bit strange when a project is finally done? I thought I might use a little of that lovely Autumn stash I have going while it is actually Autumn this year and applique some leaves and things onto some of my fleeces and skirts. (Fabric leaves that is).

Me too! I love the winds and the colours, and the ripening conkers, and the chills and the frosts, and the darkening evenings... Dunno why, but I always did like autumn best, even as a child. I always wished we could have the long school holiday in October, not August!

Well I don't enjoy the heat and the last time I was in Oregon in August (1995) it was in the 90s Fahrenheit and I was pretty miserable. The heat beat on my head and reflected into my face from the pavement. So I thought Scotland was a safe bet for a mild climate (like Oregon but a bit cooler). About a month ago, it was sizzling here. It was 38 down in London and the Home Counties and it got about 35 or 36 in places here. A nice cool breeze from the North Sea is what Dundee usually gets - but that cool air hit the hot air over the land and produced lots of smothering fog. Mmm. 100% humidity. I felt like I was being stir fried alive. Reminded me of the humidity in Eugene when it was hot and the wetlands were alive with mosquitos and assorted beasties who wanted to eat people! And that was when the eczema went into overdrive on the knees, elbows, neck, you name it...

There's only one thing worse than 40C heat and that's when the 40C heat is coupled with high humidity. A dry heat I can tolerate a bit better than high heat _and_ high humudity (spelling deliberate!)
