OT: It's a girl! & on topic baby quilt?

Well folks, grandbaby #25 is here. Announcing the arrival of Sara Lilian. 7 lbs 5 3/4 oz. We are hoping that we will be able to meet her sometime in July. They live about 10 hours drive from here. We still haven't met baby Chase who was born in March, but will hopefully meet him on the same trip as the cousins are about an hour apart. Three more grandbabies on the way but not till fall.

I have some fabric picked out for baby Chase's quilt but haven't had a chance to start cutting yet. Now I have to decide what to do for this baby girl. For some reason I was sure this was going to be a boy.....I don't have any girlish ideas in mind..... Anybody got a suggestion to make John Deere look girlish? This family lives on a farm and dad is a farm implement mechanic. I had thought that the quilt for this baby would have tractors, but that's when I was thinking it was a boy!

Oh well, guess I'll sleep on it.

Night all

Congratulations Marilyn! Sexual stereotyping, though, tut tut!! She might be running the farm in twenty years >g< Just make the pattern extra pretty and use the tractors I say. . In message , Marigold writes

John Deere now comes in pink. I saw some in Jo Ann's the last time I was there. It may have been fleece, but check it out.

And, I agree with Patti, make the quilt in tractor motif. Girls like big machines too.

Maybe this little girl will grow up liking tractors! For sure she's going to be learning to recognize them with her dad. If it was me, I'd put in the tractors, but also maybe put in gardening stuff and flowers, and maybe something else that her mother is interested in too. Maybe just use the tractors in the border or the corners, if it's a big print.

Congratulations!

Since you're into grandbaby production in such a big way, maybe I need to recommend a wonderful baby quilt book. I found my favorite over at Big Horn. It's bound to be available all over the place, maybe even a used copy somewhere. Anyhow, look at Grandma's Bunnies.

Nope. That's not the page. The book I want you to see is Grandma's Bunnies by Darcy Ashton. Maybe I need to just go out back and beat some cotton for a quilt. Polly

I'm pretty sure I saw pink John Deere cotton fabric at the local Hancock's last week.

Congratulations! I think you should turn the tables a bit. Have each of the grandchildren make a block for *you* (with help from parents where necessary)! Then you'd have a wonderful quilt of your own.

Hi, I've been a lurker, but when I read your msg I couldn't stay quiet. We have just been blessed with our first Great-Grandson, and I've seen so many things with the John Deere tractor. I thought immediately a cute saying "Daddy little helper........OR NOT! Did you appliqué it or machine embroidery? I don't have that design, but think it is so neat. Would look cute on a burpie cloth. Congratulations, and have fun with your new grandbabies!! Wanda

Lots of farm animals, chickens etc (realistic looking, not cartoons) to go with the tractor.

Plenty here:

If you have a lot of tractor fabric left over, incorporate it in the backing.

I grew up helping grandpa on the farm...learned to drive on a John Deere tracker.

I'd use the green tractors and add some pink. Maybe Hot pink!
