OT: No quilting this weekend!

...but that's OK...I've got the two nieces, pick 'em up tomorrow as I just now found out the not-so-dear SIL is having a surgical procedure done. It appears she has another kidney stone, which flared up big time this week. Should be either a same-day or one-day hospital stay for her. (My fingers are fingers crossed that's all it is - as that's what they said last time and it ended up being 5 days...)

The reason she's not-so-dear at present is that I'm not very pleased with her right now (again..) ...she told me nothing about having this problem or being in the hospital this week....because the fact is that leaves the kids (8 and 5) in the care of the new live-in boyfriend.

Now, don't get me wrong I'm not a distrustful person....he seems nice enough...but it's just that these kids have already been through the mill and this guy just moved a bit too quickly - for my comfort - to be with a woman who is about as sharp as a bowling ball....and I was close enough to a bad experience when I was a kid that my internal caution light is easily triggered. I plan to ask them some carefully worded questions=20

Anyway....our remodel (which we've been working on for the past three months) is done enough for the kids to sleep in the 'new' sewing room/spare bedroom; all my sewing stuff fit in the HUGE closet perfectly and will be out of their way...the sewing & serger cabinet is all transformed back into a desk, there's lots of room for the two twin beds (which were put closer together for couple company earlier this summer) and space for their stuff, too.=20

DH and DD race tomorrow night at a track three hours away, so it will just be me, the kids and the pets at home. They love A&W so we'll go there for dinner.

An 8 and 5 year-old, Irene? What wonderful ages - they should be potty trained and can not drive yet. Have a good time with them. Do some awful stuff. Have hot dogs for breakfast, or pizza. Take them shopping for something silly, or bake cupcakes and decorate them with dirt (crushed Oreo's) and worms - gummy something -or-others. Finger-painting? Tap-dancing? Make Halloween costumes? You'll think of some good things. Sound like the little ladies need some happy and you can do it. Polly

We are definitely going to do some shopping, Polly! The A&W is right next to a strip mall and a grocery store, and I love the idea of making cupcakes -- busy hands are happy hands, after all.... If it's a nice day on Saturday perhaps we will picnic by the lake.

While shopping, be sure to get a bottle or two of truly outrageous fingernail polish. You three will want to do your toes; there's probably something that either glows in the dark or picks up satellite signals. Polly

Good for you, you may be saving them from some horrible kind of abuse situation. You never know! I have learned to listen to the little hairs on the back of my neck. Vikki in WA State
