OT Steve Irwin Croc Hunter Killed

I do think, Edward, that you approach the group in a manner that appears very confrontational, condescending and scathing.

With respect, when you first posted in May you did receive over 60 replies from people trying to help, which to me shows what friendly, helpful people the group are. Just think, all those people gave up moments of their time to give you the advice you asked for at your first posting.

Before I joined this group I belonged to another where sniping and insults abounded. I left. When I found RCTQ it was a breath of fresh air.

I have never found anyone to be unfriendly towards me, but perhaps this is because I recognised I was joining an established group as a 'new girl', and I believe in being friendly and courteous to everyone anyway. Life's too short for unpleasantness. After all, I wouldn't go into someone's house and tell them that their views and attitudes weren't to my taste. If some threads don't interest me I skip them. Off Topic Posts are almost always marked as such - if you don't wish to read them, you don't have to. From the On topic posts I have learned a tremendous amount.

One of the really positive attributes of RCTQ is that people don't just take from it, they give as well. The Hug Quilt list where you may contribute a block towards a quilt for someone who life isn't treating well, for a natural (or man-made)disaster or for a happy event like a wedding; squishies where someone you don't even know gives their time, and money, to send you a gift (usually fabric), and in return you send a gift to someone else. Then there are the Swaps and Galleries. These things don't happen by themselves.

Friends aren't just people you know around you, they can be people you have never met. When I did actually meet members of the Group at Malvern this year, it was really as though I had known them for years. A lovely feeling.

So I am afraid Edward, that life is what you make it. If you smile the world will smile back. If you don't then the discontent I feel coming from your postings will continue.

Be happy, its a beautiful day today!

I have just now read your earliest posts and the replies to them. I can find no "very hostile and uncalled for response" in connection with any of your early questions. Your injuries and perspective puzzle me.

For one so "upset" with the number and inappropriateness of OT posts and the airing of personal views and information "more suited to emails than posting in a public news group" you have certainly dragged this one out. And this has happened without any change to the header on the posts to something more representative so that those who do not wish to read the grievances can skip them, which is not entirely your responsibility.

I have read and withdrawn from several ng's because I did not like the manner in which they operated. You are at perfect liberty to do the same. But if you stay why can't you simply leave those who have been here for a long time (and I am not one of them) alone to continue in a manner that they are comfortable with?

You decry the inclusion of most OT personal posts but at the same time you are bemoaning the "unfriendly" attitudes of regulars who you consider "clannish and particularly unpleasant". (BTW - How "unfriendly" is it to exchange such critical views on personalities through the ng directly with another poster when they are "of a personal nature and more suited to emails than posting in a public news group"?) It rather sounds as if you had preconceived ideas about what the ng should be and you wanted those already here to change to fit your views. Hardly a friendly or realistic attitude.

When I first read this turn to the thread I thought you were a troll looking for a string of upset responses. We have had more than one case lately of trolls posting under known screen names. But since there has been no disclaimer I have assumed that these are - in fact - your views. You are perfectly entitled to them, as I am to mine.

There are several here who feel the need to bare their souls in a way that I would not be comfortable with personally. If they feel the need to do this and derive some comfort from the many responses they get, and they are not harming anyone else, then I see no problem. You are free to skip their posts if you wish - always assuming that they are accurately titled of course, and most of them are. I do not read all posts myself, but I would read any posts from you that had a heading that related to quilting, and offer assistance if I could.

If you read or post to a public forum be prepared to get posts/responses that you may not like.

My only reservation in responding to you on this post is that you may try to escalate this into a nasty sniping match - and I can only hope that is not what you wanted in the first place. If so, I feel sorry for you and can assure you that you will not get any further satisfaction from goading me. That is what message blocking if for.

But I hope this is not what you wanted and that you will stay to contribute on whatever level you feel you can without expecting others to change to suit your views. I would like to think that this group collectively is not "largely useless for anyone with an interest in Quilting". Just ask a quilting question and see how many helpful and encouraging responses you get.

And I'm sorry that being in chronic pain for more than a year (the surgery to "fix" it only made it worse) isn't enough that you'll cut me some slack for a few bad hair days.

Disheartened? No more than I was to discover that this multiple identity game is going on and gotten away with. I am appalled and disgusted by it.

I've known about that for long time, but I'm sorry, Rose, that you had to find out about it first hand this way.

Chronic pain is something that none of us should have to put up with. Unfortunately some of us do and by all means I empathise with you. But (call me blonde, call me stupid) what does your chronic pain have to do with your attitude to some posters?

Everyone has bad hair days, that's why we have hats!
