Do you have a "hopping" type foot? I'd put that on and then lower or cover your feed dogs.

I don't have your exact model but I think these suggestions will work on yours, as it looks similar to mine. The take up lever should be in the mezzanine level (halfway between up and down). I have a clear foot with a large opening which I use for free motion work, you could also use your darning foot. Sometimes I drop my feed dogs, try and see if that works for you. Also, be sure to set your stitch length to zero. Anything else?

Good luck!

Rita, Never had a Pfaff so can't help. Just wanted to say how good it is to see you back here and so glad you are able to sew. Anna Belle in Palm Bay

I agree with Polly, but "encourage" him to keep up with the rest of the house!

Thing is...can't sew unless it's an emergency like today. I had to do some darning therefore the sewing. Have most everything for sale except for my Pfaff.

How would I lower the feed dogs? Haven't done free motion in years.

On your 1471, open the door to get to the bobbin and you will see---to the right--- the thing to slide to lower the feet. Hope you find your Pfaff book. HTH Barbara in HOT SC

My 1471 has a front compartment with a lift out tray for 10 bobbins, and a place to put the feet, It lifts out and I keep a couple packs of needles under it. I have a hard time keeping up with the book! Guess I need to make a bag and hang it around my neck! Barbara

My machines have a lever or dial somewhere. Turn/push in one directions and your feed dogs are up. Turn the other, and they drop down into the machine a bit.
