Ping Pati, silk thread v. Oxy anything

Oct 13, 2009 3 Replies

It seems like we talked about Oxy detergents being able to dissolve (or weaken) silk thread. The discussion was something about Oxy was okay for synthetics or cotton but played havoc with silk. Do you remember the details? Polly

Never mind, Pati. Marcella knew the silk thread details that my insufficient memory wouldn't retrieve. This woe is now appearing down at "Time to Check In". And, certainly, thank you for making us smarter. If only you could improve my memory. Polly

Any "enzyme" cleaner that works on protein stains will affect both silk and wool because they are protein fibers. Short form answer..... always check the container before using any cleaning product on silk and wool. The labels are printed with lots of information which is there for a reason.

Pati, > wasn't it Biz that did the damage?
