quilt books

Is anyone but me getting sick of buying quilt books that have crummy binding and fall apart. $25 for a fall apart book seems wrong. Recent ones are a C&T published one today and a Kansas City Star book last month. It is dry here weather wise but this is ridiculous. Am I the only one dealing with this?

I don't buy books any more. There are great patterns you can download for free on the internet and saves me a lot of money.

Ha! I'm dealing with the opposite! The latest delay with mine is/was to cope with the pattern pack - in a pocket on the back cover - so that the weight of the five large pattern sheets (A1) didn't pull the back cover away. So, if that is a problem for you Taria, I'm glad they have dithered until fixed >g< . In message , Taria writes

sounds like the 'glue' then are using isnt working. if all the C&T books have the same problem, ya ought email them about it. they should find a new glue source or they'll have you and others just stop buying their books. groggy still, jeanne ps, congrats Elly for getting the ng in OE now. :)

Heck. I thought we were going to do book reviews, not glue reviews, but whenever did I expect this group to be normal? New here in my collection is Colourwash Quilts by Deirdre Amsden. It is a beautiful book and I'd been wanting to see her quilts as well as how she approached making a sort of 'watercolor' quilt. My neighbor, you remember - the one with the new blue ribbon - is enjoying Beth Ann Williams' Celtic Quilts. Her book (just gorgeous) takes Celtic from totally impossible to 'I can do that'. If you are thinking of giving yourself a new book for Christmas, consider these. Also - not long now until the Truly Corny Christmas Jokes. Polly

I've taken a few of my quilt books to the print shop and had comb binders put on them. Only cost $1.50 - $2.00 and then the books lie flat when open. One book fell apart before I even got it home (DH was driving and I was looking at it on the way home). I was going to take it back, but it was a book that I knew I would be tracing applique patterns from and it's so much easier to do that when they open flat.

I personally do not have a problem with my books falling apart. I have way too many books & I do browse thru them a lot. I do have one C & T book that came out of it's cover, but I inadvertently bought it that way, (for $5 at the C & T book sale), so I just handle it carefully.

Celtic quilts are beautiful. Good for her. I will try to make up for my last note Polly. The books I am referring to are both wonderful.

First is Sharon Craig's Setting Solutions. It is from 2001 and full of ideas and info on using your blocks in lots of ways. I would highly recommend it (even with the binding problem)

Second is Birds of a Feather that I was inspired to buy because of our Joan's blocks from that same book. It is new c. 2006 and if you like birds and appliqué it is an excellent book to add to your collection.

I apologize for the post with > Heck. I thought we were going to do book reviews, not glue reviews, but

Well, Taria, you just might be. My quilting buddy over on the other side of Mississippi never opens her books out flat. I use mine. I enjoy them. Have even been known to duct tape them to the glass door to the west so I can trace something. They're mine, I paid for them and I'm not saving them for the heir's garage sale. So there. Polly

"Taria" So are we doing something wrong? I was just fishing to see if

Since reading this thread I won't be buying books from either of the two publishers mentioned. With all the various glues in the world there is no reason a publisher should be selling defectively bound books. Debra in VA See my quilts at
