quilted tea cozies and wallets

Have you figured out how to do it. I am looking for the pattern.

i dont have a pattern. the t/cozys on that site have a round batted/quilted bottom so the pot sets down inside the top opening. the sides too look quilted to me with something rather lightweight so it will still gather up. one bottom circle, two sides made from rectangles... the length of each rectangle to fit half the circle and the height to match that of the teapot. i'm sure after you'd made one you'd have a better idea if you'd picked the right numbers for each by how it fit. i'd used outside, batting and lining.

I have a tea cozy very similar to these. Hopefully looking at the tea cozy on the web page you can understand my directions. The bottom does not look the same, as the web page one seems to have gathers with a circle bottom added later. My tea pot is a 6 cup pot I think. It fits nicely on several different tea pots I have, even the smaller ones.

Here are the measurements on mine -

I have NOT included seams - all parts, two sides and bottom, have lining, batting, and outside fabric.

The finished bottom circle is 5". The three stacked layers are machine quilted in a 3" circle in the middle before sewing to sides. Probably basted on the raw outside edges before adding the sides.

The sides are 10" tall x 11" wide, sewn on the sides and top edge and turned right side out. A channel for the elastic is sewn 2" from the top, made from bias tape, turned in on the edges for a finish. This would be done before sewing to the bottom. (Mine has a curved top edge and has contrasting piping sewn in only to just below the channel for the elastic)

When the sides are sewn on the bottom they are lapped over each other one inch on each side. The sides are also gathered just slightly, around the circle bottom. The overlap allows more of the tea pot to be encased to keep the heat in.

Mine has elastic in place of the ribbon to gather it and bows are just sewn on the front and back so it looks like it was gathered with a ribbon. Much easier to place a hot tea pot in without ties to tie.

The bottom seam is not finished but I think I would trim it with pinking shears if I were making it.

Mine is so puffy it will stand by itself. There is no quilting other than the circle in the bottom, which I am sure is to help it sit flat. The ribbing makes the ruffle at the top stand out too. I like it much more than the one on the web page mentioned.

Please remember to add seams to my directions, I would think 1/2" seams would be necessary since the batting is so puffy.

I hope some one can help me . I have a chance to by a brother super galaxie 3100d embroidery machine hardly used for $2000 (aus). It comes with the large disney designs built in. How old is this machine what size hoops can it use or is there only one size?. Stitch quality?any other,any know problems. Info would be very helpful.
