re-purposed entertainment center

Flat screen TV's have made obsolete the deep wooden cabinets formerly used to hide the TV. Many of these cabinets are available at local used furniture stores for a fraction of their original price. I saw one recently which had been refitted to create a useful craft work station.

Sorry I can't post a photo but hopefully you can visualize. The inside was lined with pegboard which provided many opportunities to hang tools and supplies at easy reach. The sliders which brought the TV out into the room were cover with a sturdy board. If those sliders were designed to hold a very heavy TV they will support a sewing machine. The lower portion of the cabinet had drawers sized to fit VCR tapes. A shoe box fits the space nicely and will hold more supplies.

The gal who converted the cabinet said she still uses the kitchen table to cut large projects but once everything is organized she can comfortable sew with the doors open and close the doors without putting everything away if someone drops by unexpectedly.

Guess it is still an entertainment center, just not holding a TV. Susan
