Re: Some quilt pictures I found

I put my breaking thread query on the Janome Yahoo group and got an e-mail reply from Sarah Ann Smith, so I went to look at her gallery. Wow!!

I particularly fell for her Koi quilt. Now I know how to do double sided!

This is her reply: "A couple of things. Are you doing free-motion or using the walking foot? If using the dual feed or walking foot, lower pressure on the presser foot to 2. If doing free-motion lower presser foot pressure to

1 1/2 or 1. What weight is the variegated Madeira? I'm guessing it is a fairly heavy thread. Try a size 14 topstitch needle, which has a larger eye. Unlike Pam, I'm not wild about the ballpoint needles (which are designed for sewing on jersey / t-shirt fabrics). I MUCH prefer a sharp needle: a denim, topstitch or embroidery needle. Also, lower the needle-thread tension. Five sounds too high, especially for a heavy weight thread. Also, when you have time, check the files for a whole bunch of "articles" by me, Janis, Carol Miller, Valli Schiller and others on quilting and thread... lots of good stuff in the group files. Cheers, Sarah"

I had checked the files, tried the thread in cups, slung from rubberbands and a crochet hook, and everything else they suggested. I Hadn't got a topstitch needle, and there isn't a shop just round the corner, so tried the Heavy Metal!!
