Actually, I fear they are not to mortified to do it in their own backyards either.

You're right there, Pat, being one of the former "Flower Power" children I remember my hipsters and the figure I use to have to go with it but I also remember that young females were a lot more skinny than they are these days. Think my waistline is hiding out with your's! Figure now a product of retirement, too much time on my bottom and menopause......ah oh well.....we can dream.

I have a thong story that still makes me laugh and it must be 30 years old!! The first time DH and I went to Las Vegas, we went to what was then called an "Extravaganza" -- one of those shows with the showgirls all decked out in feathers and finery and very little else. It was at the Dunes and was quite a surprise for DH. We sat right next to the runway and when the women came out dressed in their feathers and finery, I thought he would blow a gasket. The showgirls had just about EVERY part of their body covered by jewels and feathers **except** for their bosoms and behinds! I had warned DH about this but he almost swallowed his tongue when those lovely women came prancing by, right in front of his nose with all the "good parts" (his words) exposed -- LOL! They had on fishnet tights and a teensy little g-string that was all covered in rhinestones. Now, just imagine what THAT felt like -- no undies on but having fishnet tights covering your tush and being held up by a rhinestone studded thong. OY THE PAIN!!! The very though of the fishnet and rhinestones going "where no man has gone before" had me squirming in my seat through the whole show and still does to this day!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

You're the second person I've heard mention that same thing in that same exact store. The first person was in the booth next to me at the art show. I just became aware of that store last weekend when I passed it. It's _enormous_!

I like bright, clear colors - suits my coloring better. There

Good for you!

Have you checked any of the consignment stores? There's a vintage clothing consignment store on the corner of Glenwood and State street that I love very much.

Those were the hottest (haw!) selling items at the show. They've got some sort of gelatin fiber fill in them that absorbs water. I'd have given a great deal to have one on my own neck that weekend! Everyone I talked to that was wearing them said they did work rather well.

Oh yes, The List. I know The List well. There's been a huge Mariners Compass in jeweled colors,on a white trapunto background, king sized of course, on my list for years!

Where about in N. Ca. Pauline? I was born in Santa Rosa and my grandson is in Cloverdale.

These are good ideas. I remember ya'll talking about the fabric bowls awhile back, they seemed to be very popular.

I did and it was. I needed to hear feedback from strangers. It's not that I don't appreciate it from family and friends but from family they're obligated to and friends usually tell me that when I've given them a quilt and well, they love me. Strangers though, especially ones who know quilts are the ones whose feedback I was wondering about.

Oh a closeup would show you the uneven points, the horrid binding and such. I did wash it though so you'd not see the syrup on it. :D

Well, I still haven't realized one of my life dreams to see a shuttle launch, I didn't even make it when I lived in New Orleans and as we only have 3 more years to do see a launch...one never knows!

I live in Danville, which is just 2 cities over from Walnut Creek. I just went to my Guild's retreat a couple of weeks ago, which is at Sonoma State College, near Santa Rosa & we did a little shopping in Santa Rosa. Cloverdale is a very cute little town. Santa Rosa has grown so much in the last 10 or so years! We considered moving up there, but the traffic on 101 is so bad anytime of the day, anytime of the week. It must be torture to live there & try to get anywhere in a hurry. And they're always working on the hiway! Never seems to get any better!

Everytime I return to Santa Rosa I'm amazed and gobsmacked.

We considered moving up there, but

It takes my daughter over an hour to get from Cloverdale to work in Santa Rosa, twice a day it's so awful.

OTOH it seems to be relative. After the hurricane it took me over an hour to get 12 miles to work twice a day! I remind myself of that each time I visit Santa Rosa.

Wow, Terri! I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to reading this. Where have I been? A brain vacation, I guess. It sounds like a wonderful time, brings back a lot of memories. It almost seemed like I was there, feeling the heat, talking to people, watching people, getting numb-tired. I'm happy for you!

Hi Karen! Feel free to share some of your art show horror stories! So far I've not gotten enough data to see if it was worth it. I did receive a commission request for a quilt but it didn't come from the quilt show. I've been kicking around other ideas for free advertising. When I set up my quilt account at my bank they asked that I display some work down there in the fall. A lot of the craft shows such as Boise's Art in the Park and the Sun Valley show require an enormous entry fee and *if* you're chosen for juried shows they want a percentage of sales. In the case of Boise's Art in the Park that equates to

20% of one's earnings! That doesn't set well with me so I doubt very much I'll be persuing that direction in the future.

My memories are actually from being a member of a travelling mime troupe, if you can believe that. Yep! No kidding. Over half our performances were done on outdoor stages.

If there's an old thread about this I'd love to see it. I don't believe I've ever met in real life OR online a mime before but this is absolutely fascinating! What was your initial motivation/inspiration for learning the art?

Terri

This particular group used backgroud music, and my initial motivation/inspiration was the chance for musical self-expression in order to tell a story without words. I thought I would be really nervous up on stage, ESPECIALLY for the solo parts, but I surprised myself. It's amazing how putting that paint on your face really helps you become whoever you need to be that day. I totally loved it. Except for the heat. You absolutely can not touch your hot face, or you ruin your make-up. It won't run, your face won't sweat, but if you touch it because you feel hot and itchy - you have a mess. But other than that, your description of being out there brought back a lot of good memories. : )
