Geez. That's tough. If I were feeling extraorinarily tactful that day I'd probably just say, "It looks like a mass-produced quilt imported for department stores. But if *you* like it, it was a real bargain. You weren't buying for investment purposes anyway, right?

Well ladies I am lucky to some extent. She lives over 900 miles from me.
I appreciate all your thoughts on this subject. She sent me a picture of the stitching and it is a Walmart quilt. I'm still puzzling on how to get out of this mess. She's one of these moody people. One day happy as a lark and the next day ... BOOM!!!!!!
All your comments are so thoughtful and helpful. Its time to take the bull by the horns and tell her if she likes her bargain then enjoy it. She doesn't need verification it's an heirloom as I am not an authority on quilts, just a hobbiest.
Think I'll go make some hot biscuits and honey and think some more.

A couple of years ago I won a door prize from a vendor at the ALA (American Library Association) annual conference. Wow! A quilt-and- pillow sham set, imported from China! Kinda coals to Newcastle, eh? I kept the prize, unopened, and sold it at my garage sale earlier this month. $10. The purchaser was delighted.
Nann who sold two of her own quilts and 6 flimsies (unquilted tops) at the same sale for $275; that purchaser was also delighted
One of the biggest insults I experienced was in my ex's family, a family member gave us a Walmart quilt as a gift. [This was before the dog]. Everyone seemed "pleased as punch". My ex looked at me, and even _he_ said it was a slap in the face. That was given away at the next charitable donation pickup.
