yup, do it. :D You can also get a firmware upgrade for it... its a much better manual camera than anything. :D If you want to sell the n70 let me know I need a film camera badly. :D

The D70 and D70s are both geared a little more to the advanced user, the D50 will give you better images straight out of the box and at a lower price. All can use your old lenses but you'll need the wide angle kit lens because there is a 1.5x multiplier with the film lenses. I deal with cameras all day long so if you have any questions I should be able to help.

true but if she is used to a n70, she can handle the advanced features of the D70. I've played with the d50 and I own a d70, and I still recommend the d70 over the 50. If you just want a point and shoot that does all the work for you, then go with the d50, but you will have limited options. I'm a professional photographer and I do reviews on cameras for a few online publications. The D70 was an award winner multiple times for a reason. There have been some pretty mixed reviews on the d50. I noticed with regularity, color shifts, inaccurate white balancing and metering with the D50.

What's the price point on the N70? I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to a digital SLR.

I'm also ready to step up my photography. Do you know of any good photography courses/programs either national or online?

I agree with you. If I were to upgrade I would definitly go with the better camera since I want to improve my photography.

I have bought a 12 inch professional scanner (I can even scan x-rays) and a

12 inch printer from B&H. They are very good and their customer support was also great!

honestly I checked completed auctions on ebay... they are averaging around 75 dollars for the body only... 130 with the main lense... I'd pay that. Let me know if you do want to sell, it would save you listing fees on ebay.

physically, a larger LCD screen... when you have the updated firmware, you get the same thing other than that screen with the D70. I updated mine and I have the better tracking, etc... as the d70s

honestly Jenn, there are a ton of good schools. I go to OIP&T, but closer to you would be Brooks in CA... I"m not sure about online tho... the N70 is a film camera.. the D70 is digital... you can get the beginner kit with one lense and a body for around 800 now for the D70.... its averaging around there... look closer to christmas as I'm sure there will be "deals"... I've dealt with B&H photo since before they were online (back in the day where they sent you a "catalog" almost monthly...) LOL... always good service.

For the price the 70 would be a better deal than the 70s. The screen is a little smaller and you don't have the option of a remote cable. The firmware can be updated to match the 70s via Nikons website. I'd grab a 70 while you can they might not be around at Christmas. Nikon just announced the D200 today so that will get some attention for awhile and their main push will be on the D50 for the holidays.
