Can I pick your brains.......

I am starting a scrapbook for my daughters Kindergarten teacher, for an end of the year gift, I did one for her preschool teacher and it went over WELL, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions or ideas for pages and such, looking to do it differently than last year, any website any of you might have would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks in advance Tracy K in Michigan

How about having each child write, (or dictate) their favorite thing about the teacher or the school year. You could also include either a group picture or a picture of each child.

I did a mini album for my daughter's teacher for Christmas. I used a 4x6 album that you get for $.99. I sent home acid-free cardstock rectangles with the start of a sentence and asked the kid to finish the sentence. The sentences all started, "I hope you..." I added a different verb to each one, such as believe, imagine or dream. I took sepia colored photos of each child. When I assembled the book, I used the same color scheme through the whole thing (rust, ivory). I put the child's photo, their sentence (wish for their teacher) and some embellishments. I emphasized the chosen verb on each page by putting it on metal, in a label holder, under a pebble, etc. Of course, I removed the cover inserts and customized my own. It was a HUGE hit, and she can even carry it in her purse because it's so tiny. If you don't have enough students to fill one of those albums (about 24), you can include a yearly calendar and/or pages for her to document her school year.

What a wonderful idea Krystal! Too bad I wasn't doing this when my boys were little. (I am brain dead (too many pain killers), don't know that I've seen you on the NG before, if so forgive me, if not welcome!)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been lingering, mostly just reading the posts, so I'm not surprised that you haven't noticed me. I'm trying to get more involved, so maybe you'll be seeing more of me!

That sounds like a great idea, do you possibly have a picture to show? I am just a bit unsure about the sentence idea, need an example to bring it together for me, thanks I just love the idea.....how do you do sepia photos? I have heard of it but not sure what it is. Thanks again Tracy snipped-for-privacy@comcast.net

Tracy,

I don't have the album to show, but it's no problem to put together a sample page. I'll also come up with the list of verbs that I used. The whole idea was inspired by an article in CK mag from a couple of years ago (Rebecca Sower thing).

I got the sepia photos using a digital camera, but there are lots of software programs that will let you convert your photos (scanned in or on disc) to sepia tone.

I'll try to get that up later this week. Things are a bit crazy right now because I'm hosting a crop for National Scrapbook Day (not a business thing really, just a bunch of scrappers).
