I would think a rounded tip butter knife would work. The spatula isn't very expensive I don't think.

I lost my cricut scraper and now I use a Pampered Chef nylon pan scraper which works just as well. You can get about 5 of them for $5 shipped on ebay.

I just used my fingernail and it didn't seem to have any bad effects on the mat. I just got my cricut this week and dove right in. There are things that I really wish it could do (like connect letters) but in a crazy moment I ordered the Pazzles Inspiration from HSN yesterday. It looks like that machine does everything but fold laundry.

I just use my fingernails to get the cuts off. I've never had the spatula -- I got the cricut before they had the bundled packages. I've never noticed anything wrong with my mats from using my fingers. I say go for it! And don't be scared of that machine -- its amazing and you just have to mess with it to find all the neat things it does. Not to mention --I've found that its pretty difficult to break that machine! I haven't yet...so that's a good sign!

Good Luck & Have FUN!

I bought the zippered accessory kit that came with the scissors, spatula, blades and all that stuff and I have found that I use my fingernails the most. (They are too convenient!) But as Scout Lady suggested, the spatula almost looks like a green pan scraper with the Cricut logo. You may be able to find those at any dollar store! That's where I got my pan scraper.

I just use my fingers. I tried the scraper, but couldn't get the hang of it.

I received from the spatula from my SS this past christmas and I love it!!! I found that when I pull the paper off the mat with my fingers

  1. the paper tends to curl 2. it takes away the stickiness a little. With the spatula I have found my mat last a little longer because my fingers aren't touching it as much and the paper doesn't curl as much. I think the spatula's are no more then but its worth the investment.

I would like to know how you like the pazzles when you get it?? I saw it as the Today's Special on HSN yesterday. I just recently upgraded my original cricut to the Expressions machine and I purchased the "Sure cuts a lot" Program the other day! So far I am quite happy with it. Blessings, Dorothy in NY

I've seen alot of people have said they are taking the cuts off with there nails. I was doing that too. And it works if you have even a little bit of nail to work with. What I found was small fibers from your sleeves get stuck to the mat and this causes it to lose it's stickyness. (if that's even a word). Try work in a t-shirt and your hands and arms as much away from the mat as possible. They wear out quick enough as it is. (ONLY BAD THING ABOUT CRICUT SO FAR) -----Mats wear out to quick. Needs more sticky or it to last longer anyway

Don't be afraid of it. I just got mine last weekend and learned it immediately. Yes, there is still experimentation going on but otherwise, don't get weighed down by the instructions. The LED will walk you through the process.

As for the spatula. (I didn't get one either). I was fortunate enough to have the Creative Memories spatula tool and it worked beautifully. I would personally be nervous about using my fingers for multiple reasons. I think it would be easier to tear or bend yuckily; maybe stray adhesive on my fingers, glitter, whatever; dirtier hands from dealing with papers for hours (maybe)...

But as you can see, there are many choices that work just fine for people.

:) Have fun!
