new scrapper

Hi all, I've been scrapping for only a few weeks and am already hooked. The subject has been my grand-daughter's summer and now she's starting Kindergarten so there will be a lot more to work with soon. Plus, I have a new 1 month old grand-daughter too.

There is 1 scrapbook store in town but I was wondering where you all got your supplies, on the Net, stores or a direct sales company? [I think there's one around here but I don't know the name of it.] I'd like to see more options and of course find the most economical sources I can.

Also, did you take classes? Have any favorite scrapbooking manuals or websites? Thanks!

In the beginning I bought all my stuff either from Michael's or AC Moore, ebay and online shops. Although I try to support my local scrapbook stores by making purchases from them, I find I can get more variety and better prices online. I have taken one class on embossing and it was terrible so I haven't tried anymore. I am considering a class at another LSS as they seem to follow a set plan instead of throwing a bunch of brass templates down at the last minute and letting you practice on scrap paper for an hour. I have learned everything from magazines and online (even simple things like how to set an eyelet).

Welcome to the group Janetlee. I get supplies from a couple of LSS and Michaels JoAnn's and Wal-Mart. I haven't tried ordering on line yet.

Hi Janet!

I love going to a LSS but the closest ones to me are 45 and 60 minutes away. It's nice to go to one thought so you can actually see product and a lot of LSS's have layouts on display which is really neat to be able to see them. I have bought quite a few things from Creative Memories and just this year found out about the supplies that Stampin Up and Close To My Heart carry in their lines.

I shop online stores and also eBay. I like scrapbookexpress.com but there are many others out there that have good prices. You have to watch the shipping though. I also purchase things from QVC and sometimes HSN. They have really good deals on some products - again, you have to watch the shipping.

Glad you joined us and check out the group website -

Hi Janetlee,

Welcome. I get my supplies from many different sources LSS, Craft stores, department stores, conventions and the internet. I have to admit I do enjoy getting a surprise in the mail when I order from the internet. Carolees is one of my favorite online sites.

I take classes and love them. I usually take something that will teach something unusual that I'd like to try in my scrapbook. Last class I took was free at a LSS and it was about using chalk in ones album. Really enjoy it and it being free was a major plus. Don't know why exactly they were having a free class, but I happened on it and signed up me and my friends.

Cheers, Lynne

Welcome Janet! I just started scrapbooking in July. I bought all of my supplies at AC Moore, and through QVC when they are doing the scrapbooking day or advertising the scrapbooking supplies.

Yes most of them do unless they are close to a Hobby Lobby or something. The new JoAnn super centers sometimes have a huge scrapbooking department.

Of note is that you can usually use Michael coupons at JoAnn's and JoAnn coupons at Michaels.

Janet,

Welcome to RCS! It is easy to get hooked! My favorite book when I was beginning was by Memory Makers called Quick & Easy Scrapbook Pages. I believe it even is sold as a kit with paper now in either HSN or QVC .com - but you can buy the book separately. It goes through things like paper colors, titles, borders, embellishments, journaling styles, layout ideas and other techniques plus it has nice layouts you can copy. I took classes- they really open your eyes to great ideas and get the creative juices flowing! Good luck and have FUN!
