New years events & scrapping -kinda long

Hello all- Happy New Year! My sister and niece from Orlando, Florida came up to Illinois to visit on December 28th, and rung in the new year with us. It was an eventful weekend, to say the least! First off, the boys and I had to pick her up in Indy at the airport. My car's speedometer stopped working about 15 minutes from the airport on Interstate 74, and I stopped at an exit, and then it wouldnt go over 35 mph, (this I found out when I called my hubby, frantically, and DH said it was stuck in

2nd gear and still driveable, just had to find a shop to take it to.) Well it was NOT a fun trip the rest of the way to the airport..but we made it there, with trucks honking at me and people giving me dirty looks as they passed me with my blinkers flashing! Sis had already gotten her luggage and was waiting at the door for us, so at least I didnt have to find a parking spot and pay for parking, I just drove up and there she was! LOL I found directions from a hotel clerk to go through town (instead of on the interstate) to the dealership, which happened to be a block away from my grandparents house. They were very accomodating and had my car fixed in about two hours. We had planned on visiting them anyway, so that worked out great..God Bless my grandparents!! They bought us lunch and insisted on paying for my car to get fixed! So, we had a very nice visit with them, and then we went to see my aunt, uncle and cousins, and they took us out for dinner. We didnt get home until 10pm! Sis and niece went to Peoria on Friday evening to visit Dad and my youngest sister, and then returned to my house Sunday for New Years Eve. We had planned on a little party....WELL.....remember I said it was an eventful weekend? HA!!..They got to my house and I had NO Electricity! A freak storm blew through about 6:30 pm, and lightning had struck a sub station, and we were without power until 1:30 am!My brother in law and wife were supposed to come over. they had no power either and their basement was flooding because the sump pump stopped working so they had to stay home. I had my youngest DS have a friend spend the night with him, so we all ended up playing cards and snacking on junk food until it was midnight, then we all went to bed. As it turns out, his friend said he had a real good time (without tv or radio or Playstation..imagine THAT!) and we all just made the best of a bad situation. Luckily it wasn't TOO cold, and we had plenty of blankets to keep warm. Well, Monday was a much better day. My niece and I drug out my scrapbooking stuff into the kitchen and we scrapped for 6 hours! I had a really nice time with her, teaching her different things and how to mat a picture, matching colors, etc..She is 15 and leaving for Italy to live with her Dad in March. He is in the Army. She loved playing with all my tools and stuff and now I have a pretty good idea of what to buy for her to take with her!! Last year I had sent her tons of scrapping supplies for Christmas. She does a nice job, she just needed a little guidance! She is supposed to take pics of the pages we did for her book. When she sends them to me, i will post them. Tuesday was MY turn to scrap! Dad came over and took sis to airport so I had the day to myself! Kids were back in school too! yee haw! I did 9 pages! I had these pages set up to scrap when I went to the Barn, and I just put off doing them for this long! **shaking head sadly** NO pics yet, but soon! well thats about all! (Phew!)

I'm glad everyone had a good time, despite the lack of electricity. I'm looking forward to seeing what you and your neice did!
