OT: Furbaby Christmas antics

It's my furbaby (Digit) first Christmas. For those of you who are new, Digit was a birthday gift from MC, and RCS helped name him. It didn't take him long to discover the Christmas tree. The breakable ornaments are higher, so he can't break those...in theory. LOL Now if I can just get him to stop trying to play with the ornaments he can reach. I keep having to move ornaments higher. LOL The rate he's going, our tree will be naked on the bottom! He also thinks under the tree is his personal napping & hiding space. I wonder what he'll do once gifts are under there.

I'm taking a hint from MC's kitty Radar and not putting the curling ribbon on gifts. LOL

I've never put anything breakable on the Christmas tree. I guess I have memories as a child of being told not to touch the tree and of ornaments falling and breaking. So, ever since Shaun was born we've had unbreakable and I usually put candy canes on the tree that people can take and eat.

Speaking of curling ribbon and Radar... I started wrapping the gifts last night and decided to wait to put the curling ribbon and bows on. Most of the gifts I just put into those Christmas boxes to save time and hand trauma. Well as soon as I put the gifts down under the tree, Radar went sniffing for ribbon and he looked more than a little put out that there wasn't any! Poor Radar! I guess I'll put something under the tree just for him to play with.

LOL Petey lays under the tree every year! I think the cat looks forward to Christmas so he can grab the prime spot. lol If there are presents in his way he will move them (usually by mouth and claws (he pre-unwraps)!) I think Petey likes it under there as when we have an artifical tree I leave the lights on, except when we all leave the house. Here's hoping Digit doesn't climb the tree! heehee, Petey did that several years in a row! ROFL Thankfully he didn't break any of the "good" ornaments. He did this with a real and artifical tree...too funny. Can't wait to see the naked tree Saturday!

You mean fur-mommy!! No curling ribbon for poor little Radar! I will have to send him a box of curled ribbon just for him. What would Nuku like? lol

This year we have *three* new kittens in the house! (They're the ones that were born under my back deck last spring.) We put up our tree on Sunday, and as soon as I turned my back, there were *three* little furry streaks up the tree. The little tom made it all the way to the top before he realized we were watching him. He seemed to know instinctively that he wasn't supposed to be up there. This year, I think, there will be no breakable ornaments on the tree, and I should also tie it to the ceiling!

My first cat, in Germany, well I left him overnite with my first Christmas tree, a real authentic looking artificial one from Norway. Anyhow had new lights and lots of Germany style ornaments. Boy when I walked in door next day, I was shocked to say the least! (He was about

15 months old) The tree was of course on the floor and he literally chewed all the lights, about half the ornaments and probably tried to chew up the tree as there was a couple barren spots on it, I can imagine how it tasted - blleecchhh!!

After that year I started researching. One thing Iearned is take a dark colored cloth of some sort and use as the skirt, placing it where it does stick out around the circumference some. Then sprinkle cayenne pepper all around the outside edge. TADA!! instant, well maybe after couple TRIES, barrier!! Nice, pretty, safe, TREE!

I still do it as Misty is quite hard headed and she is 7 now. She will lunge for anything withing range a couple times every year. I still do not put breakable stuff on it though!! the ole biddy, they have never fascinated her I guess so I don't worry about her.

HUGS!

You mean mommy. Not letting poor Radar have any curling ribbon. Boy, just because he tries to eat it, too. LOL

My brother wrapped a bunch of kitty toys, treats, and catnip for his former kitty one year for Christmas. She must have smelled the catnip, because under the tree was her favorite spot that year. Of course, unwrapping it was my brother's job. LOL

LOL So far, no climbing the tree. Of course, it's artificial. Hmmm...considering he's never seen a real tree, up close and personal, I wonder if he would know what to do with one. LOL The tree's not completely naked. Just....light-less right now. Seems DH & I can't stay home long enough in the evenings to put the lights back on. LOL Spent Monday night doing our part of church calendar planning for 2007. Tuesday night was a pastor's & wives banquet. Tonight is church. Friday night is his office Christmas party. Looks like the lights go back on the semi-naked tree tomorrow night! LOL

I spoke too soon. The kiddos just came running in here to tell me, paniced I might add, that Digit was in the tree "up high". I was thinking wayyyyy up at the top. Nope, he was curled up on the 2nd ring (from the bottom) ring of branches. Just laying there. Looking at me like this was natural thing for him to do, and I shouldn't be concerned. LOL I took pictures.

*hangs head in shame* Most people would have scolded first. Nope, I took pictures. LOL
