OT: Helping a local little girl with OI

I've been asked to help out little Isabella and have accepted the challenge. I will be the TLC rep at this crop. I've donated a number of door prizes and will donate 10% of everything I sell that night. I hope that those of you who live around Tampa will consider coming to this charity crop. Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a particularly painful desease. Here is the announcement from the foundation:

Please Join Us Crop till Ya drop to benifit Isabella Saturday October 7, 2006 (I believe it is from 12 till 10pm) Best Western All Suites Tampa Florida 33612

Isabella is 20 months old and has already healed from over 16 fractures. She was born with a rare bone disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Oi is a brittle bone disease that causes her to fracture easily. Isabella is 10.7 pounds and 23 inches long. She gets a $850 IV treatment every 8 weeks from the Tampa Shriners, and just received her first wheel chair. The family of 6 (children ages 8-20 months) does not have a working vehicle. Please join us in our efforts to help raise the funds for this much needed vehicle large enough to hold the family and her new wheel chair! We will have a afternoon of fun, games, classes, raffles, give aways, food, and cropping. We will have vendors with their inventory incase you run out of something or forget something. Dontations are already rolling in and we are looking forward to a very fun filled event. Cost for this event will be $35 pre registration or $45 at the door. This fee will include meals, deserts, and drink as well as a goody bag. If you would like to attend please please contact Gwendolyn Bogart or Lorraine Hernandez at snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com or (352)206-7008 Please visit

It will both a way to see each other, perhaps we can reserve an RCS table, and for us all to help a little girl and her family.

Thanks for listening,

This is a worthy cause. This illness also accounts for the misdiagonsis of "childhood abuse" when doctors think the parents are hitting the child when in fact the child has OI.

I wish you, M-C, lots of luck with this charity event.

Best of luck, M-C!

My college roommate/longtime best friend had OI, as did another friend of ours from college. While it's true that OI certainly has its painful periods, kids with OI can also have good quality of life, & I'm sure little Isabella will have even more opportunities & better treatment than Lisa did starting life with OI 45 years before Isabella.

I'm glad to hear she's involved with Shriner's. They have several good OI clinics around the country.

All the best for your crop M-C, I think it's a wonderful cause. Years ago when I worked in the Children's Hospital there was a little boy with OI, and he was the most cheeriest and welcoming kids around. It's so often the case that those who are afflicted with challenges are those that are the most understanding and easy to get along with. I will keep Isabella in my prayers also. luv Cec...xxx
