OT: Mr Stinky

Poor Digit, he's nicknamed "Mr Stinky" right now. He came down with some kind of hard-to-get-rid-of parasite. He's been to the vet and it looks like we've found the solution, a shot every couple weeks and a weekly "sulphurated lime dip". Ever smelled "sulphurated lime"? If not, go get a good smell of sulphur and you'll have it. LOL Poor kitty. He gets bathed in the kitchen sink since the dip will stain porous surfaces, like oh....the bathtub where he's usually bathed. The good news is that I do have lots of scented candles to help with the smell after the bath and have an outside door in the kitchen to help air it out, too. The bad news is my kitty smells like rotten eggs. LOL We have about 4 - 6 more weeks of this and then he should be fine. Thankfully, he's feeling better (and looking better).

And poor humans! I don't envy you having to give a cat a bath.

Poor little guy! I wouldn't want to be in your shoes....I bathed Petey one and only one time and I will never do it again! Just think how much better he feels, and it will make it all worth the stinky in the house, clothes, cat.

What the heck did your poor kitty get? And how do the rest of avoid getting our pets involved? hahaha You poor thing... you are a great pet owner to take such good care of Digit! I thought tar shampoo smelled bad. Can't imagine sulfur.

Oh, poor Digit! Isn't he an indoor kitty? How did he manage to get a parasite? Yuck for all of you, Digit included on the rotten egg smell! Cats have fine noses so that must be terrible for him!

Amazingly, he actually handles a bath better than most cats. His mom (we know the owner) used to hop in the shower with her owner. It's like they just like water. LOL

I'm telling you, in the kitchen sink is the best place! He has a much smaller space to escape. LOL

I'm not sure what he got, and the vet even told me. LOL

It's definately worth it, poor little guy. I'm just glad it's working and he's feeling better.

Yep, he's an indoor kitty. The only explanation is that it came in with us. The vet did say that the dip feels good on their skin, which makes it a bit easier to bathe him.

Poor kitty!!

I have a neighbor whose kitty has constant itchy, scaly scabby spots - and they've yet to know how to get rid of them - their vet is stumped! What are digit's sypmtoms? I wonder if it's a similar issue.

Good luck with the cat baths!

Digit's has these itchy, REALLY itchy, scabby spots all over. His face, back, flanks, the base of his tail, ears...all over. The ones on his face got really big, poor thing. The other spots were smaller, and some looked almost like streaks. He was pretty much in hiding, not playing, not real sociable either. It started looking kind of like a rash, actually, which is when I just called into the vet's office for the antibiotic Digit had the last time he got a skin infection, which is really what it started lookign like. But the antibiotic wasn't working so I took him in.

Dr B found "ring worm", which isn't actually a worm but a fungus. But he did say that the ring worm could be the secondary cause. So we went after the ring worm. He still itched, the scabs weren't really going away, but the ring worm was gone.

Back to the vet we go! LOL He did scrapings for mange, which came back negative. The vet's next thought was a parasite and that's when he gave me the first bottle of stinky dip stuff plus a daily medicine, and gave him a shot to help with the itchy. A week later, the scabs were 50% better! That was just last week. Dr B thinks this is one of two parasites, but both are really hard to find, and for the life of me I can't remember what they're called. One gets treated with a shot plus the stinky dip. The other gets treated with the dip. So to just treat both, and not miss one, Digit got a shot and we're still doing the stinky dip. Dr B's done skin scrapings for mange on two different visits, and they come back negative for mange.

So far, this kind of treatment is working. The scabs are going away and healing. He's active again, actually playing again! He's not hiding all day, and getting back in my lap whenever I look relaxed. I have to admit, Digit has a wonderful vet. I would never have gone to him if Kenda hadn't told me about him, since he's on the WAAAAYYY other side of the LR metro-area. But this vet is worth the drive. If you were closer I would suggest your neighbor take their kitty to him. Somehow I don't think Dr B would do that commute though. LOL

Poor Kitty!

This kitty's got nasty scabs, especially on her face, and they've tried pills, antibiotics, flea treatments, all sorts of things to no avail - so hopefully poor digits experience will help!

She hasnt' been as antisocial though. I've passed the info on to my neighbor.

Thanks!

I love Dr B. When I lived in LR, I took Radar to him. Radar was so sick we thought he might not make it and Dr B made him all better! We've found a pretty good vet here to, which is a good thing as my Nuku and Radar are deefinitely elder kitties!

I have to say that Dr. B is one of the best vets I've ever taken my pets to. It's too funny to watch him "visit" with your baby and talk to them and not you! But they respond so well to him. I've actually refered alot of people to him. Sheesh, I should get free treatment for my babies, well, maybe not ALL just one or two! LOL
