OT: My Christmas Tree

Thought I would share with all of you a photo of my Christmas Tree this year - so far. As many of you know I run an inhome childcare which can make our house look very strange at times. I put our tree up over a weekand a half ago with lights only to see how safe I could make it - and by safe, I mean keeping the tree safe from the toddlers I watch. The tree is inside the playyard for protection. After a week of replacing bulbs ( I never even plugged it in just to keep the kiddos safe) and redirecting the toddlers, I finally started plugging it in. We now have added ornaments a few new ones each day mostly from the top. All went well until we finally reached arm's reach level and they realized they could touch something besides boring bulbs. Now I am back to redirecting. At least all of the lower ones are unbreakable. We will finish decorating the tree Friday evening. The photo is in my webshots in the Misc album - last picture.

We actually started putting the tree in a playpen when our first cat was a kitten because she would climb the tree and turn it over. In the playpen it would just tip and not fall. The first year we had it out of the playpen was when middle DD was four and got her Barbie corvette. She put it in reverse and backed into the tree Christmas morning, wiping out the tree and the porcelain nativity set. We started using the larger playyard after I opened the daycare. Sandy

Very cute. I've hear of other people doing that before to keep their kids out. Maybe you could hang your tree upside down from the ceiling. I've seen pictures like that before too.

That's pretty cute. The gate almost looks like a brightly colored decoration itself.

I like the way your tree looks! At least you were able to find a way to accomidate the small children and have your tree. I will have to remember your idea. (Not like I will have small children in the house for a long time but I know many with little one!)

It's a very nice tree! I remember as a kid, we used to put all the unbreakable ornaments at the bottom of the tree. My sister's cat thought they were play toys! He would bat and roll them around, usually at night while we were asleep. The gates are a great way to keep the toddlers out of it, though!

What a good idea Sandy, I too thought that I would share a pic of our xmas tree, we have ours on a table to keep it out of the "furbabies" reach! We were lucky this year to have Tim here to decorate it, I helped him with the tinsel a little, but he did the rest.... I'm sure you'll agree he did a fine job!

How pretty. Love the decorated table with the stockings. I think it leaves more room for presents.
