I was like that for my first too Caitlin. Planned to be with my second, but life got in the way. Now my DD has gone throught he same thing with her two:>)
I was just saying at lunch time to Hubby that we should get a new family pic taken. We haven't had one done since Maggie was 8 years old. (she's going to be 21 in Nov)
His response was, why, I know what everyone looks like!:>)

Love your family photo. You have a very handsome son. Your son really resembles you a lot. Funny how genetics work. I like that you have your hands on your boys making the photo seem very loving.
Why do our husbands have to look so serious in the photos? We had just paid $3000 to have my husband's teeth straighten. He had just gotten the braces off. When I got the photos back and no toothy grin I was perturbed.
I really want to get mine done again too. We've tried the last couple years, but getting us all to the photo studio and dressed nicely has just seemed impossible. I really like the similar clothes look. I had a friend who's family was dressed in dark colors and she had on this bright red dress and was sitting in front. Every time I looked at the photo all I saw was her. So, I decided then and there I'd try and have us all in similar color and I'd NEVER sit right in front.
My husband is half Portuguese and my daughter got all the lovely olive complexion (and all the hairiness poor thing) so most people think she looks like her father. When really she just looks like me with a tan. A friend saw a black and white photo of me when I was a kid and thought it was my daughter.
Oh WOW just looked at the other photo of you. Is that a Glamour Shot? You look wonderful!

Hubby doesn't know how to be serious unless you talk chevy trucks and tractors or farming to him. He is really shy and quite. Son is from a former marriage to a mexican man from Mexico. He turns real dark in the summer when he is outside alot. A private glamour shot type party was given and they took glamour shot type photos. I took several and bought the whole package, but that was my favorite. I have since then put on weight and gravity has come it too!..LOL

My hubby hates getting his pic taken too. Makes it really hard to do the girls books! Guess future generations will just have to take my word for it!:>)

You know my husband is the funniest goofiest guy, borderline stand up comedienne, people can't believe he is so serious looking in the family photos. Like you said we'll have to journal journal journal and everyone will just have to take our word for it.
