Don't know where you are from, but the BIG city can be pretty intimidating!! Watch yor fenders (car ones!) and the pocketbook. things can be pretty pricey so look around. But as we all know and say, be safe and have fun!!

Don't know if you've been there before, but some words of advice.
Learn your streets and the subway routes. The last thing you want is to be seen w/a map in the middle on NYC.
Carry as less as possible and if you can, don't take a purse.
Ask some locals the streets to avoid at night and DO IT. Thieves can tell a tourist from miles away.
Don't mean to scare you, but better be safe than sorry.
I've been to NYC several times myself and one of my aunts lived there for 10 years. You wouldn't believe the stories I've heard.
FYI, the last time I was there the Statue of the Liberty closed access the top level after 3:30 or 4 pm, so if you want to get all the way up there, go early. =)
As Dave mentioned, NY is pricey, so take some extra cash.
