Scrapbook Stores in St Louis

I'm off on a bus trip with my crop group to St. Louis early in the morning. We're stopping at the following stores:

For Keeps Sakes - starting at 11 am Red Lead Paperworks Rock, Paper, Scissors Archivers - last stop at 5 pm Also doing lunch and dinner out. Plan to be back in Indiana around 11 PM.

Last year we played games and had raffles and they gave away $25 gift certificates to each store we stopped at when we went to Indianapolis.

I promised myself not to overspend......and set a budget for the trip.

Sandy, I know you guys are going to have a lot of fun! Spoil yourself :) I like the creative names some of the shops have.

I did a bit of shopping myself this morning. Got two scrapbookkits, one Wedding themed, the other Kitty themed - I don't think I'll use all of the stuff - but it was too big of a bargain to walk past. Some fabric flowers, corner stickers and jewels. The jewels are actually "body jewels" but I think they will work just aswell on a page or card and much cheaper than the packages marked "scrapbooking". I also got some veggie stickers! Know that sounds strange, but you don't see that a lot over here and I might be able to use it on a recipe swap in future. All in all I spent R320, which is roughly $40. I think I made a killing! LOL Oh, I almost forgot - I also got a clear perspex photo box - I thought it would save time if you sorted out all the photo's you think you might use in an album befor hand and then keep them in there - faster to get your hands on it than searching each time you do a new page.

Anyways - enough babbling from me! Let us know everything you got :)

Judy, Sounds like you had a good shopping trip also. I'm always on the lookout for items I can use on recipe swap pages, too. You're right, they are hard to fine. There was a small section of recipe albums, pages, recipe cards, stickers, charms and brads at Archivers yesterday, but my budget was shot by the time I got there.

The trip was fantastic. Every store had new things I had not seen yet to look at. I was not lucky yesterday and was the only one in the Petersburg group that did not win a prize of some type.

For Keeps Sakes This is suppose to be the biggest store in the St. Louis area. They were having demonstrations by EK Success there when we arrived. I have been looking for a circle cutter big enough for the full page type circles without having to use my dinner plates. I bought their Curvy Cutter , blade and went ahead and bought a glass mat at the same time. I've been wanting one for a while. The store was giving 25% discounts on all EK Success tools and punches so I think I did good. I also found some great 50's style stickers in their clearance bin for the album I'm gathering together to do on my Mom.

Red Lead Paperworks cowchipper, I thought of you the minute I walked into this store. It is altered heaven!!! and Katrina, they have ATC cards hanging in strips from the ceiling to the floor attached with safety pins, plus a barrel full of them to look at for ideas. When I say barrel I mean like the big ones that people use for planters. I couldn't believe the little embellishments they had in bowls and totes and cups sitting all over the place. My big upset with this store was they were the only one (except for Archivers) that did not offer us something for adding them onto our bus stop. They overcharged me and I had to get them to re-add my purchases. I know it was busy with 20 of us there at one time, but there were four of us that had to have the do this because of overcharges. plus when I got home and checked their blog site they had specials going on that day they did not tell us about. I e-mailed them and they apologized and offered to send us free charms to every person in the group who spent $25 or more (which was the special) and said it was an oversight due to how busy they were with us. I still loved the store and would definitely add it to a return trip. Here is their store site. If you click on the blog site you can see some of the great things they do. They did not allow photos anywhere inside their store.

I did some sketches while I was there. They offer a free clipart and directions for altering with each of their newsletters. Definitely worth your stop if you are ever in St. Louis. Rock, Paper, Scissors The smallest store we stopped at, but the friendliest. They did a make-n-take with us and offered a discount on all purchases. our bus driver even did his first scrapbook project with us. It is a house in St. Charles in the historic shopping district. Definitely not for a person who has trouble walking or in a wheelchair. My friend uses a walker and we were able to get her up the two sets of 7-8 steps into the store, but she was unable to go upstairs to look where most of the paper was kept and had to wait until we were ready to leave to go outside down the steps to the ground level to walk in a side door to the area where they hold classes to do the make-n-take. The store was the first one to have the new Tim Holtz ruler that has the holes for punching for sewing and the '0' center for measuring both ways at once. I've been looking for one of them. They also had the most fabulous Wausau (handmade) paper. I bought some for my DD for a project she is working on. The paper selection was great, ribbon beautiful and the flower selection was fantastic. When we left the owner came out and got on the bus with us and thanked us for stopping. It was one of those places where they make you feel like they have known you forever. We all agreed it was out favorite stop on the trip. Archiver's One thing I have found is that all of the Archiver's I've been in so far are the same. Of course they offered no discount, freebie or specials to our group. I did find some great Christmas paper in their clearance section and a new pad of Cub Scout paper I had never seen before. I think I have enough to finally get DS's album finished. I have only two years yet to go. I also bought a Paper Tagger Tool and a package with two clear stamp journaling blocks that will be great for scout pages.

I only went $25 over budget. How's that for being a good girl???

Already looking forward to next year's trip.......

Sounds like a lot of fun! Who organized it and how much is it costing you for the bus trip?

One of our members is in charge of our extra activities. She sets up a retreat at a local Amish restaurant and motel once a year and this trip. We use a local charter bus service and they charge us $1,000 for the bus for the day and we can go anywhere that we can get to and from in one day. Left Sat morning at 6:30 and arrived back at 11:00 pm (midnight my time) in Evansville. Then a group of us from Petersburg drove the extra hour back home. We have to have a minimum of 19 people to pay for the bus. After that we use the extra money if there is any to buy gift certificates to the stores we are visiting and draw for them before going into the stores. We did four stores this year and lunch and dinner in St. Louis (the stores were a little further apart). last year we did 5 stores and two meals in Indianapolis. Everyone pays for their own meals and each person brings some type of snack to share on the bus. Next year we're talking Cincinnati, OH or Nashville, TN.

I wouldn't even mind an overnight type of trip. It's great just to sit back and let the driver worry about getting us there, traffic, etc.

It sounds like a wonderful day Sandy! I love it that your bus driver also got into the spirit of things! :)) It pays to let people know when things are'nt exactly right, many times I feel to embarresed to do so, but I've learned over the years that if you don't speak up, they're probably not even aware of it. I'm glad you girls got your charms as reward for the hicups at Red Lead. Thanks for letting us share in your day.
