Stickers/cards & DIY...

Hey ladies,

How many of you watch the DIY scrapbooking show? I'm curious because the other day she did a project with a popup halloween card using stickers. Ok, so my question when she was doing it was, she took the stickers and stuck them on cardstock before adhering them to the pop-up. Wouldn't it make a much better gift to leave them attached to the sticker paper so that the recepient could then use the stickers if they wanted??? If it wasn't strong enough, you could glue the cardstock to the sticker paper rather than to the sticker itself and then the sticker is "re-usable"... Anyway, just a thought there... Then, my other question was, she showed the pop-up part being done with a die-cut... Are those available for the personal machines or only the commerical ones (like at the LSS). I've never seen one (and don't think my lss has one) so I'm curious... Does anyone know of anywhere online to find directions for making your own popups without it? Thanks!

When I was taught how to do pop ups we just stamped on a piece of cardstock, colored it however we wanted, cut it out and then glued it to the pop-up. That sticker idea sounds interesting.

I have been watching that show everyday now that I get it! I have been making the paper crafts without the die cut. I cut the paper myself and measured it all out. It is a bit more tedious but I have to make do! I have made three of her projects now, all of which are accordion fold cards or mini-books. You can print out the instructions from the web site, can't say it is easy to use their site though unless you know the exact name or episode #! I just printed out the instructions last night for that "Dimensional paper art" photo display- it is so cool! The only thing is you need a 24 1/2 inch long piece of paper. I can adhere a couple together but where do you get long AF/LF craft paper like that?

Hi CC,

I love the DIY Scrapbooking show. I like your sticker idea, especially if you are sending the card to a child, then they could use the stickers. I think the die-cut is for the commercial machines. It looked too big to be from the Sizzix machine.

Lori,

You can get craft paper on a roll from most art supply dealers like Dick Blick and such

I have some on order in fact since it looks so pretty, and it comes in larger widths you can cut down. I watched that episode too but when she was making the cuts I though, why not fold it all up first, leave the front two flaps together and make one only 4 cuts rather than those long cuts... Know what I mean... If the accordian is already folded, you'd only have to cut through the thickness twice on each folded "long" side and once down the "short" side and not have to worry about tracing the big piece onto it for the cuts... hmmm... May just have to try it that way! Also, it looked to me, on her display (although she didn't do it that way in the demonstration) that the ends of the insert piece were wider than the rest of it... so it was shaped kinda like a dog bone if you know what I mean. I would think that shape would keep the insert from accidently slipping out... again, may have to try it... Improving on things has always been one of my strong points :)

CC,

Thanks so much for the link for that paper! I think you are right-on about those cuts, I will have to try it on a smaller piece of paper while I am waiting for the long paper to come in. It's funny I was just looking in Amazon.com for books on paper crafts! There are a lot out there, that's for sure. There is one book that is all pop-ups and one is of a butterfly that you can put on a scrapbook page and it would look incredible! Do you know of any books in particular? Thanks again!

No, unfortunately I don't know of any books. I've just started on the cards myself, so I've not gotten that far :) I was just intrigued by the ideas they showed...
