Anyone making anything?

I'm still working on making some clothes for Fall and Winter (temps finally dropped into the 60's this week, but the highs will be back up to nearly 80 again by Friday, they say). Received the latest version of Pattern Master Boutique a while ago, so I decided to make new pants and dress slopers while I am at it. Also, going out last night I planned to wear my brown with orange accents skirt and its matching orange top, but needed something to finish the outfit. Looked around the studio and saw some bright, dandelion yellow canvas left over from making new seats for the porch chairs, and made up a baker boy beret - also from a Wild Ginger pattern. Worked a treat.

Today is our neigborhood Home Tour, so dh and I will be on duty all afternoon. This is also time change day, so my body will be totally messed up for a month.

Well I don't know if my current project would make you throw your hands up in the air and run screaming - or if you would climb right in and create with me. I make clothing, blankets and quilts for needy newborns. A precious doll-maker heard of my sewing and gave me one of her sweet creations to use for a mannequin. ( Picture this, if you will - a size 3 lb preemie mannequin?) Some of her limited edition best sell for around $ 1,100. I am grateful that she's given this one to me and it will be a great help in seeing what looks just right and what is too fussy, etc. However. I surely am tempted to keep the baby in the safe deposit box. Wouldn't the bank officers just faint dead-away? Polly

It's been a bad week for my asthma again. Back to the doctor, back on prednisone. 3rd time in 2 months. We agreed it's time to try different long term meds. So the sewing has had to wait along with a lot of other things. I did get my silk suiting washed yesterday and have it drying on the rack I measured it before washing and found that I have a third of a yard more than I ordered, I love Fabric.com's generous cuts.Did a half-hearted measure after hanging and it looks like I still most of the length. Might have lost 4-5 inches. I'll measure it when it's dry. It feels nice though. I have a sewing day planned tomorrow with my friend. She's coming over and we'll work together. I supply machines, she supplies lunch. I'll probably be working on a pair of flannel's for one of the DGD's. It's an easy project and I'll have my wits about me and breathing easy. Skirt comes after I'm off the meds and feel more myself. Juno

Making Christmas gifts! Right now am working on small quilted zip bags onto which I'm embroidering the recipient's name on the top strip.

Next on the agenda is pillowcases (using the tube method), with an embroidered monogram on the band.

Irene, have you played with making the little snappy bags that use pieces of metal measuring tape for the closure? They really don't hold as securely as a zipper but they are mighty easy and just plain fun. Polly

If you find anything that does any good, please let me know. I am permanently on 7.5 mg of prednisone daily, plus inhaled Albuterol as needed. This week, I have had to up the pred. to 10 mg daily and use the nebulizer every four hours round the clock. Hoping it will ease off again soon.

It sounds really cute. And I've love to see what the tiny things look like. I know you take great care with their construction and fabrics.

I need to update my Wild Ginger. I think Creations will be the first one I upgrade...

I'm still working on the historical costumes... Trying to finish the lilac under petticoat, only I've lost the back half of the waistband I cut a mere hour ago!

It really is an aggravation isn't it. I also live with the nebulizer take the prednisone when I have to. Take singulair, theophylline, advair,Flovent and spiriva. My next step, when I get stabilized is to try alvesco, drop the advair and flovent. I have to stay on the pred at least 3 weeks before making any changes. The DR.was reluctant to drop the

2 inhalers, but my thoughts were, they're not working so why not try the change. I'll let you know how it goes.At one time I was on the pred for 2 years, couldn't get off for he life of me. Gained 40 pounds and didn't recognize my self in the mirror. It has taken me close to 20 years to lose the weight ,but I've been successful this past year and have 30 pound off. Juno

The only items I'm sewing this week are a couple pair of pants for the DGDs in SC, ages 2 & 12, as well as some of the "cut out & sew" cloth books for the little one. It is difficult to fiind new ones, since I made the older one so many; but I did find 2 at the end of the Christmas season last year; one of Christmas carols and another of the 23rd Psalm which her Mom will love.

Wal-Mart usually has the biggest and best selection, so like it or not, I must go there to see if there are any later ones out this year.

I am also going to embroider napkins for the parents, Snoopy & Charlie Brown designs for their wedding anniversary, December 28th. I found the CD of designs on sale sometime back. They are big fans, so should like them.

I have been altering the pattern for a couple of fleece jackets for me. I prefer keeping the thermostat at 65-66 degrees in the winter and layering. I have several pieces of Malden Mills Polartec.

My other project at the moment is preparing to embroider a logo on 150(!) pillowcases, to be given to all the contestants at next summer's dance competition in Spokane, WA. I'm just awaiting the committee's OK on the design, they liked the preliminary stitch-out.

I made a few kid costumes for last weekend.

This week has been mostly repairs. I have been practicing my hemstitching for a cross stitch bookmark I'm making for a gift. I usually avoid hand sewing, but it is fun to do something different for a change.

Yes, 150... really. When DD asked if I would be interested in making some things for the contestants, I said "Sure, I'd love to." Only later did I find out it was for that many dancers. Ah well, no good deed goes unpunished.

DD sent me a suggested image. It took me a couple of hours to digitize the artwork and then make some changes. Then I stitched it out in four different thread color combinations, and took samples over to DD to share with the committee. They loved it.

Each design takes three color changes, and approximately 28 minutes to stitch. And that's provided nothing goes blooey during the process. Seventy hours of babysitting my embroidery machine. And I'm going to donate everything: thread, stabilizer, needles, my time.

They bought the pillowcases.

I love making enough of something to refine my process and get good at it, but this seems like more than enough.

I have tried all of thee, and not one of them did a bit of good. My next step, when I get stabilized is to

At one time I was on the pred for

Yus, I am disgustingly fat, but there is nothing I can do about it. The most annoying part is that dh has diabetes so I regulate our nutrition intake very carefully, he is as slim as can be, I eat even less than he does, and here I am 50 lbs more than I should be. Grrrrr.

Version 5 of Boutique is terrific. I am not used to all of it yet, but it is even more versatile than the previous one, even gives you patterns for linings

Hope you found it! Probably underneath something else!

There was a time I thought putting in the second set-in sleeve was boring. Pretty sure I'll reach the screaming-tearing-my-hair-out stage of boring before I'm done with these. I asked DD if maybe DGD would like to help. We could set up a production line: She fuses stabilizer, I hoop, she runs the machine, I fuse stabilizer, she hoops ...... ;->

I'm still running version 3: I didn't upgrade last time because I was on dodgy computers! Now I have the Mac with the PC emulator (about a quarter of my hard drive is dedicated to this, and that quarter is larger than the old IBM Thinkpad!), it's time to upgrade. :) Celebrations is the one I use most, so that's what I'll upgrade. First...

I did - on the floor behind the chair at the Bernina, in the conservatory! Under petticoat complete, satin petticoat now has waistband on and I have one half of the thing to sew down by hand on the inside, and then hooks to put on each side for closure.

I need to complete the last chemise/shift (just the neckline to gather and the band to put on), put the waistband on the petticoat for the sacque and turn the sacque gown hem up, put its hooks and eyes on (a row of about 15 up the front of the bodice, facing opposite directions!), and that will be my first two outfits and most of the underpinnings done! Two more daytime outfits to cut and make, plus a domino, a few small accessories, a hat to complete (the last of three! I don't make hats, you do realize... ), and then my stuff is done!

For another person in the group I have one complete suit to make (embroidered silk coat, waistcoat and breeches, all with gold lace added) and a second pair of breeches. This will be a pay job. :)
