rec.crafts.textiles.sewing is also a no-ad group, so please don't spam it again either. We don't consider *any* ads to be acceptable, and 3 times in 2 days is way over the top.

Just curious-- Do you have a FAQ that tells what is and is not OK? I am considering putting on a sig line that includes a link to both my personal page and my ebay auctions. Xena

La Vida Xena scrawled in bright red lipstick:

search for the posting FAQ. Sig file is OK. no more than 4 line, tho.

There is a FAQ posted regularly in rec.crafts.textiles.sewing. The most recent copy is <news: snipped-for-privacy@corp.supernews.com>. It includes a link to "Advertising on Usenet: How To Do It, How Not To Do It

formatting link
" You can also access the advertising FAQ via the links at

. In general, most people consider a .sig of 4 lines or less that includes links to your web pages or auctions acceptable as long as you genuinely participate in discussions. (Posting just to get your .sig in front of people will probably draw criticism, but genuine participation will be welcomed.) Any .sig of more than 4 lines is in questionable taste, whether or not it includes advertising. (Yes, mine is too long--I just can't figure out what line I should give up.)

Thanks for the links. Though I have a few months of posts from this group, I must have deleted the FAQ without thinking about it back before I had a question about adding a sig line. I know that archives of a lot of groups are available online, but I am having problems with my browser shutting down, so searching would have been problematic.

Also thanks for your time and energy in being the keeper of the FAQ.

yes, but which of the three groups you cross-posted to did you think was "this group"? Do be careful about cross-posting, particularly following up to spam.

Boy do I feel defensive and stupid at the moment. Bad combination.

Umm, I thought I was replying to THIS "this" group, alt, sewing, the first of the three groups that appear in my list?

I can honestly say that this is my first unintentional crosspost, and I have been online since the first Netscape browser. Agent is newer to me, but, hey, OK, obviously I didn't check headers or my "To" field to see if the original header was still being carried on by everyone in the thread, and was therefore sending posts to all three groups. So that's how my other posts got to the other groups! Duh! Blush! For some reason it did not occur to me that I was replying to a spam-originated thread and should therefore be on the lookout for the little to dialog box that asks the question "to crosspost or not to crosspost." Severe case of autopilot overload. It didn't even occur to me to put my request in a separate message with "FAQ Request" in the header. In my very foreshortened memory I was only asking for FAQ and replying with speedy joyfulness to Kathy to say thanks for the links.

I think I am a little cross eyed from sewing for my daughter's birthday visit this weekend! Oh, to get everything all done! Eeeeee!

OK, I'm done now.

Just sign me, Goofy in sewing land
