Can I do this?

You may recall in another thread that I was reluctant to sew for DH because I wasn't sure he would think the results were good enough.

Well, after the resulting fish fabric idea, I saw a print at Hancock's this week and another idea struck me.

He wore out an outrageous outfit he wore at store openings, and he says he wishes he still had it.

I think I could replicate the look easily, and it's a forgiving baggy fit.

Do you think I can away without measuring him? I'd like to surprise him (for better or worse...)

Sorry, cannot seem to copy/paste at the moment-- Yes, you should be able to surprise him with the baggy-fit you idicated. Do you have the old outfit to measure? I'd leave extra room in the seams, though, just in case Mother Nature has been cruel to him in the interum. Cea

Tisn't Mother Nature - it's my cooking!

No, I don't have the old outfit. I would have to go by his jeans / pants fit. They're an elastic waist (not the jeans...).

Measure a shirt that fits the way you want this too, and use it as a pattern...

Possibly a one seam pant would be ok. Or one of the hospital OR type pants. Mine loves these now and its hard to get him out of them. I picked waist size from pant that fit and as Kate said I measured a shirt he had then choose a pattern that was a bit looser in all directions. I also cook 2 hot meals a day and they do have an effect. ;-))

Yes, they are hospital type baggy pants. I'm so excited - and he is going to be out of town for most of the next two weeks so I'll have time to work on them.

I don't even have to make a shirt - he could wear just a white or blue one.

Keeps him home where he's supposed to be!
