Clover kanzashi flower maker - raw edges?

I have finally got around to trying out my Clover kanzashi flower maker templates, nice results BUT as ever cold be improved on. Has anyone else here used these and if you have how do you get around the raw edges? Everyone on the reviews says hide the edges under a button etc but I'm not keen on the result I can still see the raw edges from the front behind the button , the poke out quite a bit. I really wanted to put these on my dresses next spring but I think as they are the flowers will not wear well when washed. The photo is of my 1st attempt

Claire, I have never used the device, but I wonder if you could hand whip-stitch (or serge?) the cut edges before you sew all the pieces together? Or perhaps cut what will be the 'bottom' edge at more of an angle, so it stays at the bottom?

Perhaps you'll find something useful in these instructions for making Dior Roses:

I am considering trying to cut them bigger than I need and then turning the edges by pressing in before putting them in the snap circle. The Doir rose in the link you showed Beverly, have the edges turned in by stitching and are turned out which seems sensible to me, so I could try that but they are quite bulky as they are and I am only using light printed cotton. Hey ho experiments .

None of the ones I have seen made up in photos look as if they have the raw edges poking out at all, How do they do that? I have only tried the large round petal so far I also have large pointed so perhaps I will try turning the edges on those as an experiment.
