cutting out slippery fabric?

over the weekend, DS and I hit up TSWLTH....i had a 25% off coupon for the total sale, as well as irons being on sale for 25% off...got a new rowenta!

anyway, she picked out a simple looking dress New Look 6001 and fabric...it's part of the Joanne's line...something silky I think it's called. anyway, it's slippery! I did get it cut out last night...but does anyone have any tips? i cut with a pair of dressmaker shears...could i use a cutting mat and rotary cutter on the straight lines????

Thanks so much!

I quite often rotary cut slippery fabric. Works a treat.

Polly- That's a great point. I'll add it to the grocery list. I don't empty my iron either....

Pin the fabric to paper, pin the pattern to paper and fabric, cut all three layers. Instant accuracy.

You need lots of cutting mat acreage - or at least I do! I have 4 big cutting mats laid out so I can cut with minimal moving between pattern pieces.

My 20-year-old Rowenta Pro finally had to be replaced, the thermostat has gone wonky, and it gets way too hot even on silk setting. :-( It has been a great iron, never spits, lots of steam, and I love " burst of steam".

My first requirement in an iron is that it be ready to press the minute I stand up from the sewing machine to press something. The auto-shut-off irons are %^%#?#* IMHO. Rowenta still makes ONE model that stays on until you shut it off or unplug it:

I ordered it a couple of weeks ago, it is perfect for my needs. Eventually I suppose I'll invest in a steam generator... or not...

Lucky you! None of the nearby TSWLTH carries that model. And usually their coupons exclude irons, so I didn't even look. But I'm a happy camper, I do like this iron a lot.
