My pedal shifts around and tries to hide, too, whether on carpeting or on hard flooring. (I use a portable vintage Singer -- 99K -- sometimes in the dining room, sometimes in the kitchen, and sometimes in the living room.) Being the uptimate cheapskate and make-do person, I use a small plant table to hold the pedal in place on the floor, and it works very, very well with $0 spent. It is a metal base in pedestal shape, with 3 feet that spread out from the pedestal. The
14" rouund marble top is fairly heavy, so the plant table stays put whether on carpeting or hard flooring. I put the plant table in front of my machine toward the right and put the foot pedal on the floor between 2 of the feet, and the pedal stays put in the V very nicely. The marble top is a handy place to park miscellaneous stuff, too -- in a shoebox lid (see, I'm really cheap!) I might have a pin cushion, extra scissors, seam ripper, extra bobbins, a spool of thread, etc.
