Gutermann thread (revisited)

I was in the city today, and I stopped in at TSWLTH, to pick up a few items, and as I needed a spool of red sewing thread, so I stopped at the Gutermann's display and looked at the selections.. I noticed that all the Gutermann thread on sale is marked "Germany".

If I remember correctly, some people here were having trouble with Gutermann thread which was made in other countries (mexico & ?).. I wonder if they stopped making (or selling) the non-german thread... (I never personally saw the non-german Gutermann here.)

i thought Geutermann was always made in Germany. Wasnt aware they had a factory in Mexico. Hmm. Learn somethin' new everyday! Did the sale fall under the title of: "cant use your 40% coupon on this" catagory? amy

Last time we discussed this, I went to my local TSWLTH and sure enough, it was marked "Germany". However, unwinding a few spools of the thread a bit, I discovered it was just as linty as it was last time I bought it. If it's really from Germany, then I am shocked at the decline in quality. I wondered seriously if maybe the spools are from Germany and the thread is made elsewhere. Is there a Germany, Mexico perchance?

That would be very illegal in the US.. Items must be marked with country of origin, not city.. That law was ewnacted many yewars ago, to stop the Japanese who had created a city, "USA", and were marking items for export here "Made in USA".

I don't know about the lint problems. I have not noticed the German Gutermann thread I have to be excessively linty.

Hmm.. I am wondering if they have more than one factory in Germany?

I am surprised that people are finding the german thread to be poor quality.

Have a lot of Gutermann thread, also marked "made in Germany" and it is just as linty as some bottom line domestic threads. Indeed one could hardly see what all the fuss was over Gutermann initially, for it certainly was not that great IMHO. Perhaps it just depends upon the machine one is using?

As for "German quality", well many products from that country are not what they once were, including such greats as automobiles made by Mercedes Benz or BMW. Some models are fine, others are quite "cheap" appearing in terms of construction quality, parts and materials, especially for what one is paying.

They also use prison labor to make things that can proudly state "Made in U.S.A." Starbucks for one, but wait, they have a "contractor" who uses prison labor.
