Ironing press

I treated myself to an ironing press recently. Is there some trick to making ironing easier with these creatures? I seem to have all sorts of problems with shirts and blouses, even unfitted ones. It has a pressing pad but the clothes still seem to be sort of wrinkly and I have to finish them off by hand. I have it set to cotton and high steam. :( Fey

There is definitely a knack to it. I prefer a fine water spray. The commercial presses have a hose with a fine spray nozzle. But you should be able to get a spray bottle wih a fine spray.

The order you press something like a shirt is critical. Trying to remember - I think I started with the back yoke, then did the back body, then the two fronts, the two sleeves, and finished up with the collar and cuffs. The fabric has to be absoluely flat spread out on the pad before lowering the press lid. Also be careful not to catch a part you've already pressed, because you'll just press in creases or wrinkles. Everything should hang free of the press except the part you are working on.

If you can start with flat pieces like pillowcases, napkins, and tablecloths, it will help you get a feel for the machine. Good luck.
