Hmph. I just got in from wreck-er-noitering at the Joann's store nearby. I was surprised to see quilting cottons marked at $9.99 a yard. They aren't any well-known top quality label--I don't think Joann's carries the top contenders of the quilting kingdom. This marks a disturbing trend. I've noticed higher prices on a lot of the newer fall/winter fabrics. Maybe they have to off-set those 50% off coupons. I've been trying, unsuccessfully, for months to find a fabric to border and bind a quilt. How picky can one person be???? Cea

Hi Cea,
I have noticed this disturbing trend in JA also. The fabrics are going up up up in price and the quality is not. I think you are right about those 50% off coupons - they have to off-set their bottom line by having higher prices. I like ladybutton fabrics on the web for quilt fabrics. She is not inexpensive but her service is GREAT and she is good to chat with if you call her toll free number. She is on the web at

I do not quilt but I use quilting fabrics in children's clothing - the quality is much better than so called garment fabrics.
