Kilt

Good plan. You might want to think about getting some heavy weight flannel with a plaid weave. Or something else relatively inexpensive that happens to be plaid. That way you get practice on folding so the plaid matches and no one color JUMPS out at you. :)

Re: Kilt Group: alt.sewing Date: Wed, Feb 11, 2004, 5:12am (EST+5) From: snipped-for-privacy@new.rr.com (Mike=A0Behrent) Nice thing about a kilt, there's ventilation I found a source for the tartan I want though. 13 oz, 54 inches wide for $47 a yard. Looks like I'll be ordering 4 yards in the next couple weeks.

. They're located in Vallejo, California. About the best price I've found so far. I mentioned this project to my mother today. Her reaction kinda surprised me. She loves the idea and is looking forward to seeing it Mike in Wisconsin

I expect to. I'll have plenty of practice time before I get the real stuff :)

My mother is a fanatic about family heritage. Now that I found a source for the proper tartan I think she's going to get some for herself

See Threads mag, issue 33, 'Making a Kilt'. You can order back issues of the mag at the website. Cea

Re: Kilt

Try looking under 'Top 100 Articles'. Maybe you can access it that way from Thread's site. HTH. (Have you seen all the manly man books on Taunton's list?) Cea

I wear mine in public, quite a lot. On the way to and from Piping engagements, parades, Society functions, or just because. Most often than not, I end up going into a store for one thing or another. Often times looking like this,

Their selection may not include what you want...

However, $25- $30 US per yard cannot be beat anywhere. A word about undergaments.. If you do wear something underneath, please for the love of god be careful about sitting down, sitting in general etc. Those who DO wear underneath are less carefull..(it gives us regimental types a bad name) they also look uptight, out of place, and walk with an akward gait.

Speaking of which...

Has anyone in the US seen the new Sierra Mist commercial? Features a Scottish band, a subway grate and a Marilyn Monroe reference... It's too funny!

wouldn't a good library have back issues that you can check out?

Looks sharp. My wife is a bit on the conservative side but once she sees it really doesn't get alot of negative attention she'll be ok with it. I do want to go with the proper Clan tartan. I know there are alot of tartans that are for general use, like Royal Stewart and district tartans, and I may add one or two of those in future, but for my first I'm going with the ptoper one.

Libraries in this area don't have Threads or Techniques for Casual Clothes. I did find several sites on the web with instructions I'll be able to figure out. I'll experiment on some denim first.

But still available. Techniques for casual clothes from Threads. $2 from ER Hamilton, a well established bookseller whose bargains have vastly enlarged my personal library...

LOL they might have a few yards on clearance, just so long as you like the "loud McLoud" aka "bumble Bee tartan"

Tell your wife to watch Screen Savers on the TechTV channel (of course it's a cable channel). Patrick one of the hosts often wears one of his many "Utili-A-Kilts". And believe me when you see those tree trunk, rugby playin legs... Well you don't say one bad word about a man in a kilt!
