Really Kate, you could have given the poor guy some idea as to the kind of money he may be looking at! It is virtually impossible to find the price of a Bernina on the web, just the specs. You have to go into the dealer's actual shop to find out the cost.

(sorry to post this sort of separately, but either my reader or my server has gone haywire, and the posts come several days late, so I have to read everything on Google, then come over to Thunderbird to post)

Olwyn Mary, I've been having the same problem using Thunderbird. It's even worse with my email. I thought it was just me, since I'm knew to Thunderbird anad thought that I hadn't worked out all the bugs.. I think that I ought to report this to them now that you are saying the same thing. Juno

My guess is your ISP. I use Thunderbird and I have had no problems at all, and I read several newsgroups at least once a day. I have a small local ISP.

I have absolutely no problems reading and posting with Thunderbird and have tried to figure out what's wrong with Olwyn's news server and haven't been able to figure it out yet. But my ISP has an excellent news server, so I suppose it's the news server's fault.

YES!!!! Three cheers for the small local ISPs, may they live long and prosper!!!!!

humph. My local isp who is great in all other respects dumped usenet. I've got newsguy now. I figure I can suck up for $5 a month to feed my addiction.

Mine is run by an old hippy hacker that my IT friends know. I'd much rather write my checks to Bruce than to Mr AOL. I can drop an e-mail over there and get a response the same day. and I pay 12.50/month for unlimited (when I pay quarterly)!

I guess it must have been free.teranews.com which was the culprit. As of today, it seems to have more or less caught up, but I am seeing posts on Google which do not appear on the other, and vice versa. Oh well!

No two news servers are ever going to be perfectly in sync, and Google will not archive all newsgroup articles because some people set flags to have them not archived.

I can easily find a UK on-line price for it, but that's no use for someone in the states as pricing and tax are so different. Ron can probably find us a ball-park figure.
